Pulling up to the house I slid off Shane’s lap and went to exit the car. “You know I didn’t mean to upset you.” Shane said sheepishly I looked back at him and smiled. “It’s ok I understand. You’re not ready yet.” He shot me a look like I completely missed the point. “It’s not that. I just want you to be surprised when I do propose. My last one was arranged and I couldn’t plan anything.” I smiled wider and leaned back to kiss him. After a second he kissed me back passionately. He instantly understood that I didn’t hold anything against him and understood his point of view. “I’ll see you tomorrow night for your party.” He said as I got out and shut the door. Waking up at 12:30am with a pounding headache. I didn’t understand what was happening until I heard a purring and voice. “Hello Scarlett I’m Ruby. I have waited a long time to meet you.” My wolf so her name is Ruby. “So have Ruby” I replied. She started humming a melody that was so sweet it instantly calmed me and I drifted off to sleep. I awoke to someone jumping into my bed and I flung my arm up as a defense hearing a “Ow what the hell Scar?” Lily? I opened my eyes to see my best friend smiling down at me. “So what’s your wolfs name?” She asked. I guessed she could smell the shift in my scent now having Ruby awakened. “Ruby” I said tiredly. “Oh my god that so pretty. I can’t wait to go on a run together.” Lily said only problem was she would have to wait for Carl to be older. I sat up as she hugged me. “Where’s my cute little nephew?” I asked and Lily rolled her eyes at me. “I swear I have to compete with my own child for you now.” With a half laugh added. “He will be coming later this afternoon with Kyle.” She finished before rolling up onto her feet. “So we need to make sure you look perfect for your mating tonight with the King.” I rolled my eyes so hard I thought they might stick in the back of my head. Again being all dressed up in a gown of deep red in my closest with Lily standing beside me was starting to feel normal. She had Carl in her arms rocking him. “You look so grown up.” She smiled at me in the mirror. “Speak for yourself mommy.” I giggled at the frown on her face. Poking our tongues at each other we left my room when a smell kissed my nose. Rain and freshly cut grass. I fell into a trance as I followed the smell down the bottom floor where everyone stopped to look at Lily and I. Clapping and hugs started but I couldn’t find the source of the smell yet. Having circled around the lounge and half the dinner room I finally laid eyes on him. Shane. I stopped my eyes growing dark and Ruby and I spoke as one MATE. Shane had heard me and turned to look at me his face falling from a smile to blank his eyes then turned dark and he too spoke. MATE. His voice boomed around the whole house making everyone stop and look our way. We were so engulfed in each other we paid no notice to anyone else. Shane slowly approached and swept me up into his arms, kissing me deeply. Sparks flying all over my body making me jolt. After what seemed like forever I heard my mother voice penetrate the void that had formed around us. “Scarlett Black I am happy you found your mate but please control yourself at least for tonight.” She sounded mortified and I pulled away from the kiss. Not realizing I hadn’t breathed my lungs ached when I sucked a breath in. Shane put me back on the floor and as I noticed we were the focus of everyone’s eyes I slunk down a little and turned red. My dad and brothers approached Shane and shook his hand before they each hugged me giving their congratulations. Chris looked sad even though he tried to hide it. A year without a Luna and watching two of his younger siblings find their mates so easily must have crushed him. I vowed to myself that I would do everything I could to find him his mate.
