chapter 5

I had my first big accident like when you have blood running down your body that type of accident when I was fourteen. I was a naïve little girl who was trying to figure out why her father left her and why was her mother avoiding her existence.

I was coming back from school because the buses were not available due to some reasons. People were calling their parents and I tried too but was left with a long beep sound reporting that the person is currently not available. I decided to walk back to my mother's house.

We lived close to the school. One moment I was walking on the pedestrian and the next thing I knew I was smashed into the glass door of a shop by an uncontrollable car. I couldn't see or hear anything. I thought I was dead.

I opened my eyes in a hospital with a sweet nurse trying to soothe me and asking me about my parents. I was not hurt much. A piece of glass pierced inside of my right arm where I had stitches now. No serious injuries were reported. I was lucky that way.

I gave them my Mother's number and she picked up after the third call. She told them she is going to be there in a minute. That one minute turned to 3 hours. I was scared and I wanted someone's comfort. I spent 3 hours staring at the white wall of my room when my mother came smelling like beer and sweat.

She informed my dad about it. I thought, hoped that he would come to see me maybe not today but in a few days only he didn't come.

He added a little credit to my mother's bank account. He called once to check up on me but I made an excuse and went straight to my room.

Right now having my mobile phone furiously ringing for last five minutes finally made me pick up the call.

"Thank God you picked up. Susan just met with an accident. We all are going to Charlie Ray hospital."
The line went dead just like how my father's voice sounded.

I felt absolute not a damn thing about Susan. We are practically strangers. We never acted like sisters. She knew she was the golden child of the family and was not insecure at all.

I had always been a jealous person. Why should I go to a fucking hospital to see a sister who acts like I don't exist?

"Hey, you look deep in thought. What was that phone call about?"
Seeing his golden eyes looking at me with concern my chest felt like it was burning.

I started a game with David. But I didn't know when I had started depending on him.

"My father called I have to go. We'll talk tomorrow I know you want to."
I said and quickly said goodbye to everyone.

I took a cab to the hospital and asked the reception about my sister's whereabouts. When I reached her room my father was pacing down the hall glancing at the door every second.

Ella was hugging herself tightly while sitting on a chair. Her eyes were red and her cheeks puffy. I came into view and sat beside Ella.

"What happened?"
I asked both of them.

"She...She met with an accident at her friend's house. Fell down the stairs quite harshly. She...She was bleeding. Her head...Oh my god my baby."
Ella started crying again and my father, the doting husband he was comforted her.

I stood up and walked to the coffee booth and picked up two cups passing it to them. They accepted reluctantly. The room opened and a doctor walked out looking at us.

"Doctor, how is she? Is she alright?"
My father asked shaking a little.

"Yes. She's fine and conscious. She had a nasty fall and had cut her forehead a bit which is stitched now. She twisted her ankle and it's quite sprained. I have prescribed some painkillers. I suggest complete bed rest for a week. You can take her home in an hour or so."
The doctor took his leave and both of them jumped to meet Susan.

I observed them from the door, the perfect family. Ella crying, hugging her and my father giving her a lecture about stairs. I imagined myself lying on the same bed waiting for my mother, anyone. I will never understand why they hate me so much. I was their only daughter once upon a time, their first child.

I didn't deserve this and I didn't deserve to watch this family reunion scene. I walked out of the hospital and called the only person I know would never let me down.
