Mag-log inEmily’s POV:
Everything seemed to be going fine. Christmas holidays were a day ahead. It was Tuesday today last day of College and then winter break. Oh I just loved winter breaks. I loved winter. The snow, Christmas, there’s New Year, ice skating, building snowman, having ice cream in winters, throwing snowballs etcetera.
We were sitting on our bench discussing the usual, Dukes mystery girl.
To be honest I was happy he finally found a girl. At least now he was busy all day either thinking about her or doing something regarding her because now he does not tease me all the day. He doesn’t poke his nose into my business and my life. Truth be told, I had always loved Duke. Since the day I was adopted into this family I looked up to that asshole as a big brother. As my role model! He was smart and funny and I wanted nothing more than to make him proud.
Mom and Dad never refused me anything. I was a spoiled child, I guess. There love spoiled me. I was chosen by the Hunts and welcomed into their family, their lives and I was grateful to them. I will be my entire life.
Sometimes I feel like I owe them. I made rich friends. More importantly, amazing friends who stand up for me every single time I need them to. I made it till College and in good grades. I owe them for giving me education. Guys bet on winning me so that they could use me for money and tell people that I invited them to my grand luxurious house. I owe my parents for giving me shelter. I owe them for giving me a better lifestyle, hell, an awesome lifestyle.
And I owe God, for providing me a beautiful family.
“Come on Duke, tell us already” Beth insisted.
“You’re going to spend Christmas with her. We’ll get to know eventually” Lilly added.
“Sooner the better” Livy spoke.
“Like Lilly said, you will get to meet her eventually so wait like the good friends you are” Duke smiled.
“Don’t you have practice today with Paul” to my surprise Ed asked Lilly.
“No. I insisted on practice yesterday but he was reluctant since I got the cut on my arm” she explained.
Her cut! That day Andy called me somewhere near midnight explaining what had happened. At the same time, Duke was on the phone with Ronny. All of us gathered at Andy’s place. When Lilly and Eddie entered they were surprised to see us. Lilly had her left arm bandaged but she made it clear that it not serious. We left later that night.
I kept thinking about Eddie on my way back with Duke. He felt responsible for Lilly. It hurt me to see him with different girls all the time but now since he was growing feelings for Lilly I was not really sure how to react on that. I kept asking myself if I was either hurt or happy for him.
I told myself I should be happy because my Eddie was finally growing up. He was developing feelings for someone and that someone was Lilly, my best friend. Deep down, I was hurt too. Everyone knew how I felt about him. He knew yet nothing happened. Eddie did not feel the same way I did for him.
Looking at the brighter side, it feels good to see him like that. Helpless and desperate for love! We all know how both of these idiots like each other and its fun watching them.
“Guys, Christmas is coming” Anna chimed.
“It’s been a while since I’ve seen my old buddy” Ron said.
“And who may that be?” I asked.
“Santa,” he said as if it was suppose to be clear he was talking about Santa.
“Hey would you guys be having Christmas breakfast at your place this time too?” Jack asked me.
“Yeah, mom is really excited. She’s learning to make these new dishes and desserts. It’s good to see her busy like this”
“Oh I can’t wait to have her Christmas cookies” Livy moaned.
“I know right. They are the best” Beth added.
It was 24th. It was girls’ day out. Luckily Livy and I had shopped for all of us. We bought dresses for New Year. Today we were going to the beauty salon to get facial, pedicure, manicure etcetera. Lilly drove s to the Royali Beauty Salon.
I booked the salon today for just us five girls. It was going to be an awesome day. It was 12 p.m. and we had seven hours’ easily to get ready.
After getting home, Grandmother managed to contact a shaman from outside the city through someone’s recommendation. She was a woman, aged slightly above 50 named Yinggu, and was supposedly very good. Grandmother accompanied me to Yinggu’s house. I entered alone and saw the shaman sitting in front o
Twelve years ago, in the year of the Snake. I had been gravely ill for no apparent reason, and had a fever throughout the year. No matter what we tried it could not be cured. One midnight toward the end of the year, I watched in a daze as a big white snake slithered into my bed and climbed up my leg
