6 Months later...

God this would be so...annoying!  Though it might not be boring, she would watch people, that was always a laugh but…  Millie sighed, she would much rather have stayed at home. Instead, she stood at the top of the metal stairs that led down to the enormous warehouse below and looked around.  It was normally empty and for sale, but tonight it was beautifully decorated as a winter wonderland.

There was a cobbled path winding through the entire room and trees, actual fir trees, glistening with glitter and fake snow. Millie watched people walking along the path, and realised that they weren’t real cobbles, half of the women down there would have fallen over by now judging by the sky high heels they were wearing. From here, the entire room looked like a scene from Narnia. Old-fashioned lamp posts lit the way, casting a golden and flattering glow.

The whole room was packed with people, mostly beautiful people. The ones seen photographed in Vogue and Tatler wearing the latest fashion, and which included her model and would-be actress, twin sisters, and a host of their friends. According to her sisters and their best friend Georgie, there were Hollywood stars coming too.  The twins had already descended the stairs and all Millie could hear was Mwa Mwa of people busy kissing the air next to many sculptured cheeks, and there were squeals of excitement as they met friends they hadn’t seen for a while.

Gazing across the room, Millie began looking for a discrete place where she could hide. It could not be that hard. She could find a seat behind an out of the way tree, and watch the people, and if she got bored with doing that, then she had her phone. She was at an interesting part in the book she was reading on her Kindle app, and she felt a warm glow as she thought about the wonderful hero in the story she was reading. Rick was tall and had dark hair, he’d spent lots of time out in the sun rounding his cattle up so he was deliciously tanned.

In her mind, Rick looked like the man she had yelled at in the summer, when she rescued the girl from the sea.  In fact, she had not stopped thinking about him. She never went to the police station to report him - and had told no one what happened that day. Besides, his face had been white with shock, by what had happened  to his charge.  She hoped it had been a lesson to him.

A more beautiful man she had never seen in her life, and she had seen several handsome guys when they came home with her slutty sisters, she found them in the kitchen the morning after, bare chested or just in boxers as they rummaged about in the kitchen looking for mugs and the coffee jar. That golden crescent of sand had been deserted when she had gone back the next day to see if she could see him again, and all she could hold on to was the five minutes of telling him off.

In her dreams, however, she met him repeatedly, and in as many situations as she could imagine.

He had rescued her from the sea, and she had clung to those strong golden shoulders as he had carried her from the surf.  As he laid her on the sand he had gently moved her hair away from her face, his long, strong fingers stroking her cheek. She had opened her eyes and found him gazing adoringly at her. His deep brown eyes speckled with golden flecks and framed with thick black lashes came nearer as he…

Someone knocked into her, a woman laughing with her boyfriend. “Whoops, sorry!” She exclaimed as she clung to the arm of the man she was with. Oh for Pete’s sake, it wasn’t fair! Her dream always stopped before he could kiss her.

Shaking her daydreams away, Millie looked again at the warehouse below; seething with happy, laughing people. At one end of the room they had painted a huge curtain with the Snow Queen’s castle, she wondered what it was hiding. Maybe she could find a quiet spot there, away from her sisters and Georgie.

The twins had never stopped talking about the band Hero’s, and this was their Christmas party for friends and employees. She had paid little attention to what they said as they rambled on about two of the guys in the band. Sighing, she made her way down the stairs. The only recompense was that everything looked so beautiful. It was fascinating to be walking into Narnia, but really, this was the last place she wanted to be.

Her evening had been planned, the twins would be out this evening, and she was looking forward to settling down with Netflix, having a couple of mince pies, and a glass of wine. Unfortunately, the twin’s friend Georgie Baker-Harris had turned up in the afternoon and moaned about the fact that she now had a spare invitation as her boyfriend Jasper couldn’t make it.

For once everything was calm in the twins’ apartment, Pearl was lounging on the sofa flicking through the latest Vogue magazine. Ruby was busy texting friends, and she was sitting at the dining table writing her Christmas cards. When the doorbell rang Pearl and Ruby automatically looked at her, expecting her to get up and answer it.

Georgie almost knocked her over as she stormed into the flat, flinging her Chanel bag onto the sofa

“Jasper has fallen off his bloody horse!” she announced.

Pearl looked up at her friend, “Is that mentally or physically?” Even Pearl knew that Jasper would not marry her friend.”

Georgie’s eyebrows raised sharply  “Physically of course! Why the hell does he have to ride all over the countryside on that vicious beast, what sane person rides out in foggy wet weather? The damn thing tried to bite me last time I went to the manor with him,” she ranted. “He says it wasn’t the horse’s fault, said he fell off, because some bird flew up in front of it.”

“Oh poor Jasper, is he injured?” Millie asked, looking up from writing her cards. She liked Jasper the 11th Duke of Shettleham, they had shared a few conversations about the history of his home, when he had visited with Georgie.

Georgie glared at her. “Not that it has anything to do with you, Cinders,” she seethed. “He’s broken his arm, has concussion, and has to have to have surgery, they’re putting pins into his wrist, thank God it’s not his painting arm.”

Millie turned pink in embarrassment, and she put her head down and carried on writing her Christmas cards. My god, she was only being polite.

“So why are you here, shouldn’t you be at his bedside?” Ruby asked as she poured a glass of wine for Georgie. “Are you still going to the party tonight?”

“Of course. Jasper wouldn’t want me to miss it, besides he’ll be doped up on drugs and won’t even know whether I’m there or not.”

Millie rolled her eyes at Santa’s cheery face on the card in front of her. Georgie really was horrible, if she was Jasper’s girlfriend she would be at his bedside making sure he was comfortable.  If there really was a naughty list, then Georgie was bound to be on it!

Pearl raised her eyes from Vogue, “Have you two been rowing again?”

No… Maybe,”  she pouted. “I begged him not to go to Shettleham this morning. Bloody man!” Georgie pursed her lips, her anger rising. “He said that he hadn’t been down to the manor this week and Lucifer needed to stretch his legs, he’s so vicious that Jasper is the only one who can ride him. Good god he even refused a blow job, said it was getting late, which makes me, me of all people, second to a fucking four legged nag!”

Millie who had just taken a bite from a mince pie tried hard not to spit crumbs out as she forced her laugh into a cough.  “Sorry went down the wrong way.”

Georgie’s glare could have melted glass, it was a wonder her eyes didn’t bubble and turn red. Fortunately, Ruby interrupted what could have been a catastrophic row

“So who are you going to take to the party instead?” Ruby asked, “you can’t let that invitation go to waste.”

Georgie shrugged, “I really have no idea, all our friends have got one.”  She pouted at the twins, and then her pout turned into an evil smile as she turned to look at Millie.

“Come on Cinders it’s time you went to the ball!”

Millie stared open-mouthed at Georgie, “Oh no I can’t, thank you for asking, but I have plans this evening.” No way was she going through that pantomime!

“Watching Netflix and scoffing mince pies!” Ruby snorted, “Don’t be ridiculous, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

Oh no really I can’t, and apart from anything else I have nothing to wear.”

“Don’t you worry Cinders, your fairy badmother will make your wishes all come true.” Georgie said airily.

Millie looked at the twins, they were both smiling, and that was never a good sign.

Georgie had dragged her out to a vintage clothes shop, she had no say in what she was going to wear, Georgie chose everything.

So now here she was, dressed up to the nines in a gorgeous fifties full skirted vintage dress, which was worrying as it was strapless, and with her 34DD boobs she was always careful to buy clothes with straps or sleeves.

The midnight blue silk dress had its own internal bra, and surprisingly it fitted as if it was made for her, but the niggling feeling that it might slip had her tugging the bodice of the dress up every five minutes.

Georgie had even helped with her hair, gathering her long chestnut hair and arranging it into a pretty chignon. The overall effect was stunning.

At the bottom of the stairs, a man dressed in nothing but a bright red apron held a tray of glasses filled with champagne. She blushed as she realised that the apron was the only piece of clothing he was wearing, and he gave her a wink as she took a glass. She only took it to be sociable and to have something to do with her hands.  She would never drink it. Champagne went straight to her head, but at least it looked as if she was enjoying herself.

Walking along the fairytale path to the far end of the room, away from where her sisters were laughing loudly, Millie edged her way around clusters of people laughing and having a splendid time. There must be an out of the way quiet area somewhere, even if it turned out to be the ladies’ loo.

She found a quiet seat at the side of the room, half hidden by a fir tree, and she settled down on the sofa. It was a brilliant place to watch what was going on. For a while she watched the people, and was rather shocked when she saw other  servers, both male and female, wandering around with large trays of drinks. They were naked except for a flesh-coloured thong decorated with holly! She hoped for their sake that it was the artificial stuff made from material. She stared so hard at one bunch of holly that she rummaged frantically in her evening bag when the guy looked over at her.

Eventually she dared to look up, relieved to find that the waiter had moved on.  She watched the comings and goings of the crowd. The girls all seemed to be slim and gorgeous, and the men were good looking. Each time she saw a tall man with dark hair her heart jumped a little hoping it was the man on the beach, her dream lover. Well, not a lover, not yet. He hadn’t even kissed her in the dream, never mind anything else.

The crowd in front of her hadn’t changed much, and she was bored with looking at them, so she opened the pretty silk bag and reached for her phone, flicking to the Kindle app and her story. She’d got to a good part,  Lois and Rick were about to have a major row, which she hoped would end in them kissing. Rick was a rather dominant man, and even though Lois riled him up, he was tender to her and gently forced her into doing what he said.

It brought goosebumps to Millie’s skin, and there was a hot and heavy feeling low inside her, it seemed so illicit. She would love for that feeling to come to its conclusion, but she was sure it would never happen. She was what her mother called a ‘late starter’ whatever that meant. Okay, so she hadn’t had a boyfriend yet. So what! She was only twenty-two, and apart from anything else she had seen no one she would want as a boyfriend...well, apart from him.  She knew his name was Nick, that’s what the girl called out to him, Nick. It was such a strong name, and just from his appearance it suited him very well.

Taking a sip from the glass of champagne which she hoped would cool her down, she carried on reading.

Rick reached for her arm, Lois would not get away from him again. He’d chased her all over the county, and now they would have a serious talk.

“Get off me, you crazy cowboy!”

Rick ignored her and scooped her up into his arms. “You and I are gonna have a little chat, honey.”  He looked down at her and chuckled at her scowling face, God, she looked so adorable. He knew it was all bluster coming from her sweet ruby lips. She wanted him as much as he wanted her. She waved her legs in the air, trying to escape his hold.

“Keep still Lois, or I’m gonna put you over my lap and spank your beautiful ass!”

Millie almost jumped sky high when she heard a chuckle behind her.

“Wow, looks like Lois is in real trouble.” A smooth voice said behind her.

Millie shot up from the sofa, spilling her champagne, and dropping her bag and her phone. She turned around to see who the rude person was reading over her shoulder.

“That’s real…really rude, reading over my shoulder! How dare you, I could have been reading something private.” Millie said as she felt herself turning scarlet.

“I’m rude?” The man said coming around the sofa and picking her phone up. “Is my Christmas party so boring that you had to bring your own entertainment?”

Millie slowly looked up, taking in every detail of the man standing in front of her. From his glimmering shiny shoes. and beautifully cut black trousers that clung to his thighs. His blue and silver brocade silk dinner jacket was narrow at the waist and broadened out at his wide shoulders. His pristine white shirt stark against it.   Her eyes wandered over the neatly trimmed scruff and up to the serious looking deep blue eyes.  His long tawny blonde hair pulled up into a loose bun.

Her breath was quick, and even more so when he grinned and his eyes crinkled up in laughter.

“It’s okay, I’m not sure I want to be here either, parties are always good when they are hosted by someone else, at least you can leave if you want to.”

Millie blushed, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to be rude, I was dragged along by my sisters and their friend, and I don’t know anyone else here, and…”

“You got to a good bit in your book,” he said grinning again. “So if you don't  want to be here, what would you be doing?”

Millie shrugged, she was still having trouble breathing in front of this gorgeous man.

“Catching up on Netflix, probably.”

“What are you watching?”

“All sorts, The Good Fight is very good.”

The man nodded, “Oh yeah, I’ve watched that.” He suddenly raised his eyes to look over Millie’s head and nodded to someone behind her.  “Okay er…?”

“Amelia Ashton, everyone calls me Millie.”

“Gabriel Swann,” he said, holding out his hand to her.  “I’ve got to go, my partner’s calling me, enjoy yourself Millie, read your book or come down to the stage and sing along with everyone.”

His warm, strong fingers slipped around hers, giving it a brief squeeze and a shake, and then he was gone.  Millie turned around to watch him go, but he was quickly swallowed up by the crowd, and the last she saw of him was the back of his head leaning close towards another dark head which somehow seemed very familiar.

I did not dare to believe my ears! Liu Longting wanted to sacrifice me to the Mountain God?!“Doesn’t this god want girls who have not reached 13? I’m way past that age. He wouldn’t want me,” I told Liu Longting.“It’s fine. To any being that has lived past a few hundred to a thousand years, age is just an approximation. Thirteen and twenty looks pretty much the same outwardly. The main differentiators are bodily attributes. A child below thirteen years of age would have a smooth, clean body. As long as you shave all the hair below your neck clean and dress up like a child, you can definitely pass off as the real thing.”The hair below my neck, other than armpit hair there was still that area. Having a man like Liu Longting standing in front of me and saying all those things made me feel awkward. “Other than this, is there any other way?” I asked Liu Longting, embarrassed. Liu Longting probably guessed what I was thinking and refused to give me a way out. “This is the simplest w

NikkiI stood from where I sat with furrowed eyebrows and my gazed fixed on Chad. "Ehat is she doing here?" I was thrown back. My feet were unable to consume my balance and I felt trapped. I wanted to be out of there the quickest that I could. My eyes went back to Rebecca when she broke the silence for a confused Chad that could not stop scratching the back of his neck. He was clearly not expecting her to show up here and was not taking her entrance lightly."Oh my God, you?" Rebecca gasped, "I'm so sorry. I didn't know you were here, Chad and I were just having a little fun time together, I literally thought the pizza man was here." She smirked, folding her arms across her naked body."Nikki, it's not what it looks like I promise." Chad stepped forward and out his hands on my shoulders. "Look, Rebecca is only here because we wanted to talk about our plans for her pregnancy.""Ejat?" I gasped.

[Aria]I looked at the people surrounding me. I was nervous. There were so many people and I was unprotected. Celia approached me and I got more nervous. I was afraid they would still blame me for what I had to do.They couldn’t understand. Caleb may have cared about me, but my punishments for disobedience were terrible. He would experiment.
