Trembling like a hen about to be slaughtered, she ran out of the room in fear and in tears. She hated seeing his face if not for the order he had given that all of Wole’s need should be accounted for, she would have not have come. Charles had recruited both her and her younger sister when they were very young. She watched as he raped her, a 16-year old girl. About a week later, her sister was diagnosed with pregnancy. Charles was furious when he found out. He ordered that she should have an abortion. It was in that abortion that she lost her 16-year old sister. She died due to the bad effects the drugs she was given to take had on her. It was a memory she would never forget in her life. She would have done anything to avenge her sister’s death but there was nothing she could do. Anyone that attempts ratting Charles Rowland out to the police or any related office would end up dying mysterious and dreadful deaths.                  Wole walked in with shouts of “take me home, I want to go home, I want to be with my father,… I don’t like it here”. Hearing his voice the anger in Charles began to diminish. “Leave us”. All the maids that were in the room then packed up their equipments and hurried out. “Maybe having a smooth conversation with this boy ought to cool my temper and possibly give me a profitable solution to the problem with the I.C.P.C( Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission). “How old are you, Wole”. “I am ten years old sir”, was the sharp reply by Wole. Charles had been watching the A.I.T( African Independence Television) news broadcast on his 75 inch flat smart Tv right before Wole walked in. It was on the evening news that he heard of the arrest of his men. He stood up from the couch he was sitting on and went forward to pick up the television remote from above the glass table in an attempt to put off the television. “Wait sir,”, said Wole with his face glued to the screen. “Increase the volume sir,”, he added. At the mention of Doctor Ajayimore his attention drifted to the news. He didn’t realize that he was in no position to give Charles commands. All the same, Charles increased the volume for him. He increased it to a point that even someone else outside the room would hear it with ease. Wole was not a fan of the news but something he had heard made him want to listen. He even forgot the apparent reason why he came to Charles’ room. His focus was entirely on the television screen. “It appears that last night, the proprietor and doctor-in-charge of the famous Divine Hospitals with over seven branches around the nation Dr. Olutunde Ajayimore was reported and found dead in a ditch covered in blood and his skin marred by several bullet holes. Residents say that he had been brought by a black car. The eye witness claims to have seen the man on his way back from church with several bullet holes around his body”. The police are doing all they possibly can to find the culprits responsible and any information that could be considered useful should be handed over to any police station in Delta, Lagos, Anambra and Enugu states, A.I.T News Abuja.”

“Jesus”, screamed Wole. He felt like block of cement had landed and crushed his heart. Words could not be enough to describe the pain he felt. He fell to the ground and broke out in tears, crying like an infant. It took some time before Charles could come down and piece together what was going on. “Since he arrived here all he wines about is his want to go home to his father….. and now suddenly, hearing the murderous death of a man, he cries like someone in a nusery……Wow, could it be that the doctor was his father”, he thought. “Wole stop crying”, said Charles. “You are older than that”. Wole looked at him then turned his face away, back to his tears. Charles had no idea of what he had been through. To have an incarnation of the devil for a stepmother and to have the only person that he cherished and loved most showing up on the news, Right before your eyes dead. “If you would not stop this nonsense, get out of my room”, ”I said GET OUT”, roared Charles in a bid to smack Wole.

He was not able to tolerate the crying anymore. He ordered one of the maids to carry him back to his room with instructions to lock the door until he stops bewailing. His anger rose back up again. He remembered that some of his boys were still in police custody. Of course they wouldn’t dare to say an atom to anything concerning him. He trained his men to be loyal and to stay loyal to him until death. That amongst others was why he was feared by some other druglords around the globe. For this reason, he had never been caught by any national authority. He made a phone call. But to play on the safe side he hired two his personal assassins to take care of the boys in custody.

Charles travelled the following day to one of his undercover bunks in Malaysia. He was supposed to meet with a drug dealer and settle some scores, so he decided to kill two birds with one stone.

“Mountain God’s Marriage?” That sounded like some television drama, or maybe the plot of a story. Was there actually such a thing? “Nope, but I might’ve read it in a book,” I answered Grandmother. “Yesterday I went to Grandma Li’s house downstairs to chat and she told me about a strange custom from her hometown. She said that every ten years, they would need to pick a young child no older than 13 years of age to be wed to the Mountain God. They said it would bless them with a good harvest and allow them to be free of disaster and sickness.”If I had heard this back then, I definitely would not have believed what Grandmother said and dismissed it as superstition. However, I was proof of the existence of superstition so I did not reject the idea of such a thing. I smiled at Grandmother and asked, “Those are all determined by nature. Even if there was a mountain god, if the heavens really wanted natural disasters and plagues to befall them, how could he control it?”“Indeed, with
