Chapter 1

chapter 1

Where is

it? I can’t find the note the moment I turned my Pharmacology book on page 226.

I know I inserted it on the 226th page of this book. But it’s gone.

Horrible

thoughts immediately came to my mind.

I hope I

dropped it on the corridor so no one would know it was me. I hope I dropped it

in a public place.

I could

almost faint at the thought that I dropped it at home. I could not handle Nela

or Josiah seeing it. I know there is a lot of possible excuses for that but

still…the fact that my code name was there and a threat came after is going to

shock them.

And

besides, I don’t want to lie to Josiah. Not now that I am so open to our

possible blooming relationship. I want this to work. Maybe this could work.

“What’s

with the furrowed brows?” Nanette probed when I sat across her on our table.

I sighed. “I

lost the note,” I told her.

Her eyes

widened. “What note? The note?”

I shut my

eyes. “Damn it.”

I heard

Nanette saying something under her breath. “What the fuck, Eunice? Where did

you lose it?” Now, she’s panicking more than I am.

I shook my

head. “I don’t know.”

“Fuck!”

she cursed. “I hope you lost it somewhere public.”

“I hope so

too.”

“Yes,

because if you lost it at home, then you’re dead.” She said as if reminding me

what I already know.

I rolled

my eyes. “I’ll find it.”

“You

better,” she said as she gave me a stern look. “If your husband knew about it,

you’re so dead.”

I know

that. Josiah will probably flip if he knew that I am a part of a gang. Damn, I

almost shivered at the intensity of his gaze when he saw my wounds!

How much

more when he learns my real secret?

I leaned

on the back rest of the chair and thought the possible places that I lost it. I

know it was still there yesterday. We used that book yesterday and I finished

reading at page 226. I used it as a bookmark which is not really a good idea

but I know that I tucked it real good.

I didn’t

open my book since last night…but Josiah held it for me on the way to the room.

Shit?

Shit!

My heart

is racing fast. It can’t be, right? It can’t be. Josiah did not see it. He

cannot see it. He must not see it.

I tried to

maintain my straight face especially when Josiah sat with us at lunch. He

planted a kiss on the top of my neck as he sat beside me.

Nanette

was looking at me like something is wrong. Oh, yeah. I haven’t told her what

happened to Josiah and I. We were too busy about the lost note.

Damn me

for my stupidity.

“How was

your class?” Josiah asked me.

I smiled.

“Boring,” I replied. “You?”

He

snickered. Okay, by the looks of it, I don’t think he found the note. Maybe I’m

just overthinking.

“I missed

you during class,” he whispered before kissing my earlobe.

I bit my

lip and immediately blushed at his words. Damn it. I am so vulnerable when it

comes to him.

And it

doesn’t even help that Nanette is just in front of us, watching intently.

Josiah

snaked his arm around my waist. “What do you want to eat?” he asked.

“Sandwich

is good,” I replied.

He nodded.

“Alright, baby. I’m going to buy us food,” he said and then looked at Nanette.

“What about you, Nanette?” he asked.

Nanette

just smiled and shook her head. “I’m fine, Josiah. You can go buy now and take

your time.”

Josiah

looked at me for one last time before leaving to buy us lunch. And the moment

he was out of our sight, Nanette threw me a look.

“What the

hell was that?” she asked.

I bit my

lip, slightly getting shy when I reminisce what happened last night. Damn.

When I

woke up this morning, I thought it was all a dream but then moment I realized

that I am wrapped in Josiah’s arm as we were both lying naked under the sheets,

I couldn’t help the giddy feeling inside of me.

But then

lots of questions clouded my mind.

What if I

get pregnant? Am I ready? Is he ready?

Are we

going to do that often?

What if I

get too addicted to him?

What if he

realizes that this is just nothing compared to what he felt for Hannah?

Damn it. I

need to trust Josiah more. I need to give this a chance because if I didn’t, I

might regret in the future.

“What?”

Nanette got my attention. “Are you and your husband dating?”

Okay, that

sounds a little off but I can understand.

Nanette

raised her brow. “What?” she asked, already getting impatient.

I pursed

my lips in a thin line. “I think so.”

She gave a

lazy look. “You think so? His hands are all over you and you’re just letting

him off like that and now you’re saying that you think you’re dating? Really?” she asked in a mocking tone.

I sighed. If

Nanette is acting like this now, how much more will Mona and Mitch? Those two

have been so protective of me since Josiah showed some motive on me.

I bet

they’re going to flip once they knew about me and him.

“What

happened last night? You went home late.” Nanette wasn’t done yet. She has a

lot more to say.

I took a

deep breath. “I did. And he waited for me…” I trailed.

“Why?”

I bit my

lip. “He said he broke up with Hannah.”

I had to

skip some parts because I don’t want a Freudian slip.

“So? He

broke up with his girlfriend. You accepted him with open arms?” she asked.

I looked

down and fiddle with my fingers.

“My

goodness, Eunice!” Nanette said. “Did you hear what happened yesterday

afternoon?” she asked.

I looked

at her and shook my head.

“Josiah

got into a fight with Kyle Kim. Based from the students gossiping about it a

while ago, Kyle Kim broke some of his bones so he isn’t here now.”

My eyes

widened. “Kyle Kim broke some bones?”

Nanette

nodded. “You are the root cause of that fight, I guess. I heard Josiah got

pissed when he saw Kyle Kim with another girl. Then he took charge when Kyle

Kim apparently said that you are his girlfriend.”

I stilled.

Is that why Josiah asked me about it last night? Is that why he got into a

fight?

Damn it.

Nanette

smirked. “Guess he already manned up, huh?”

I bit my

lip. “I guess…”

She looked

at me with a serious expression. “I hope so.” She said. “But you still need to

find the fucking note.”

I

swallowed and nodded. “I will.”
