chapter 5

Life has been hard lately, incident from that night keeps replaying inside my head. Hearing Zen say that ‘I’m just a maid’ has gotten me back to my senses. I was flying high up in the sky all these years, now suddenly it feels like someone ripped off my wings. I fell so hard on the ground that all my dreams, my wishes shattered into million pieces. Never in my life I thought, out of all the people, Zen will talk to me in this manner. My heart is broken forever now, I don’t know if I will ever be able to collect the broken pieces of my soul.

The smile from my lips has gone off to somewhere. Crying myself to sleep has become normal now. No matter what I do, how busy I try to keep myself; my mind wanders off to him. His face flashes in front of my eyes every time I close them. It’s all my fault, at least before he was my friend, he treated me so well and now everything is ruined; all because of my stupidity. He is right, where he a billionaire’s son, and where am I, a maid; a maid with no background.

All of sudden a loud shrill voice comes from the living room, I drop the mop from my hand and hurry my way too the living. When I reach the entrance I see all the maids being lined up and one of the security guard is checking their body.

“I will call the movie if I don’t get my necklace! My Tiffany’s diamonds! I want they back!!” Mrs. Fleming is screaming at all the maids.

I watch the maids being checked, they are being treated so badly. As far as I know, all the maids her honest and good at their work. But who will explain this to Mrs. Fleming, for her poor people are thieves, slackers, who don’t deserve to live.

“You come here! Come!” She glares at me.

I slowly walk towards her; she grabs a hold of my wrist and yanks me to her. Letting go of my hand she starts searching my body like a crazy person. She doesn’t leave one nook and cranny; she checks everything yet finds nothing. How can she find something that I didn’t even take? It’s bizarre of how lowly she thinks of other human beings.

“I will check your room, I know you took it!” She doesn’t even let me answer, before I could deny to her outrageous allegation, we were already walking towards my room.

On our way there for a brief moment my eyes lock with Zen’s, who was standing on the staircase watching all the drama. When we enter my room she almost pushes me on the floor and starts looking around. She tosses and turns my pillows and comforter; she pulls off the bed sheets off the bed. Even then when she finds nothing she walks to my small closet in the corner of my room and starts throwing every piece of my clothing from the shelves. By now all the maids and Zen where standing by my door watching.

A dramatic gasp comes out of her, I try to look at what she has in her hand but I fail. When she turns around, I feel the floor from underneath my feet slip away seeing the shiny necklace in her hands. All the maids starts chitter chattering, Zen just stares my way blankly.

“You thief! See Zen, I told you! I told you we should throw this bastard out of the house. But no no, you are so big hearted, look she stole from me. Who knows what else she stole and sold off.” She scoffs looking at me with disgust.

“I... I didn’t steal that, I have never...” I get cut off by a harsh slap that misses my cheek and lands on my nose.

“Shut up!” She yells at me.

My nose instantly starts bleeding; I pinch on the tip to stop my blood dripping all over the floor.

“Zen, it’s enough now, I can’t keep such a big thief in my house.” She shoots another glare at me and marches my way and a hold of me by my arm.

Without any other word she starts dragging me out of my room. I look back at Zen who follows us, with an expressionless face. I pull my hand away from her hold as I had enough of her bullshit. I don’t care what she thinks, the only one I care about is Zen, I really want to know what he’s thinking right now.

“Zen you really think I stole the necklace?” I ask letting go of my nose as the blood flow seems to be stopped.

“Does it matter what I think? You did it and it’s in front of us. I don’t even know who you are anymore, Isabelle.” He says without hesitation.

“You know right I have nowhere to go. Your mom throwing me out, won’t you stop her?” My voice cracks half away through and my tears start building. I myself just realized if she throws me out I won’t have a place to go to for shelter.

“I don’t know.” He turns his back to me and starts walking up the stairs.

“Zen! Please! Zen!! I beg of you! I didn’t steal it!! I have never even see the necklace in my life!” I scream and try to run to him, but the guards hold my halfway through and start dragging out of the house.

“Mrs. Fleming I beg you! I didn’t do anything!!” I throw my arms and legs around trying to somehow get out of their hold.

“Please!! I beg you!!” Tears start streaming down my face nonstop, my voice cracks up due to crying out loud.

Mrs. Fleming standing by the main entrance and starts smirking looking at me. Why is she... oh this was all for revenge. All this time I was thinking why she didn’t react to me slapping Alisha. As much as I know Alisha, she went to her mom and told her what had happened and her mother told Mrs. Fleming for sure. I was almost waiting to get a beating from her but now she waited, planned my demise and then took a shot at me. She made me look so small in front of everyone and especially Zen, she made sure her plan of h throwing me out was successful.

“Zen!! You know I didn’t do it! Please help me!! Where will I go?! I have nowhere to go!!” I shout as loud as I can to make him respond to me.

But nothing, he doesn’t look back once, the guards keeps dragging me and throws me out of the main entrance. I fall on the concrete on my knees; I feel a sharp sting on my knees.

“Zen!! Please!! I have nowhere to go!” I try to stand up but fall down again.

In a single moment everything was taken away from me, I don’t know where I will go or what will happen to me next.
