chapter 3

“Alex! Alex! Get up you’ll be late for school again” someone yelled I was too deep into my sleep and in the warmth and comfort on my bed and I wanted to lay there for a bit longer, I was angry at what happened last night. Two own goals, that’s how low the level of my favourite club had fallen. Lately, everything was going bad and football was my only outlet away. I was passionate about my club and it was a magical European night against their rivals and they screw up, you really feel hurt and annoyed.

 My mom said ’’how many times should I tell you not to stay up late, it’s not healthy, look at your eye’s son.”I groaned and said ‘’ ma! Please don’t lecture me first thing in the morning especially after the horror show that was last night’’.

 ‘’ it’s alright son, don’t get affected by all this, football is a game, you win, some you lose some” said my mother trying to console me. To be honest it did not help a bit, but it was nice to see someone showing me that they actually cared for me. ‘’ Ma, after what happened with Xavier, dad and the whole thing in college, football was the only thing that made me feel something’’ I said hugging my pillow.

I got up and went to wash my face; I looked in the mirror and was thinking to myself, I am nineteen, how much longer will puberty last? Stupid acne-it takes all the pleasure out of eating chocolates.’’ Alex what do you want for breakfast?”… ‘’ coffee and French toast? ”. My mother really knew me well; she knew exactly what I needed. 

‘’ Alex where is your ID card?’’ she asked. Oh shit, I had no idea what-so-ever about where it could be so I did the most logical thing next. ‘’Ma! I think one of your daughters might have taken it’’ the old, blame it on your younger sibling trick. ‘’Alex!, they are your sisters too and the only one that might have been exchanged or adopted might have been you” she joked, but it’s true I look nothing like the rest of family. She continued “Alex talking about your sisters they have extra classes today so please be a good elder brother and wait for them “. Seriously I thought the day was starting off well, but now this, I wanted to play basketball and spend time with Aliza but I did not want to trouble my mom anymore so I decided to wait for them.

‘’son I left your ID on your bed, don’t lie and blame your sisters next time”. Wow, she really does everything for me, am I that lazy? I guess I wouldn’t be surprised if she still dressed me up and combed my hair. I chuckled, it was nice talking to mom today, it made me forgot about the past and in a way made me feel excited to go to college.  I did not want to go to college but holidays were coming soon and I knew I’ll miss it then so I got ready quick, boys usually don’t take long, I guess it’s because we don’t have a closet stuffed with once-worn clothes and don’t pick matching accessories.

I went downstairs and I saw both my sisters sitting at the table, Chloe was having her favourite cereal and Beth was having a sandwich. ‘’Good morning! Good seeing you eat something in the morning is” I told Beth,‘’ don’t make it a huge deal if mom wouldn’t have made me feel like she had a gun pointed at my head, I would be at school long ago‘’ she said rolling her eyes. 

 ‘’Good morning bro’’ said Chloe, she was the youngest. She was my twin in a way; we are the same in every way other than looks. She was just so pretty; Beth was too, I guess I was the only one resembling a monkey and not a pretty looking one either.

 I asked Chloe why Beth’s mood was off, in my head I knew it was regarding the Xavier incident but I was hoping that she had moved past it and that her mood being off was related to something else. ‘’ Kelvin isn’t talking to her” Chloe said laughing. Kelvin was Beth’s childhood crush and she hated being teased with his name since he was dating someone else, the normal teenage drama. 

Beth threw a fork at Chloe and one think about Chloe was that she wasn’t the type of person who would offer their other cheek when they were slapped, she would slap the person twice as harder if not more. She loved zombies and violence.

They both started fighting and pulled each other’s hair; it was a brawl until my mom came and ended the fight. ‘’ enough both of you, I don’t want more incidents to happen, I don’t want to lose any more of my kid’s” Mom had become emotional; she tried really hard to hide the pain she was going through. I went gave her a tissue and hugged her, I told her that I would deal with them and that she should go have rest for a while. 

I spoke to them about the situation and told them to behave and go apologise to mom. They cleaned everything and said sorry to each other and mom. They shouldn’t have fought but I don’t blame them, lately, everyone in this house has been acting strange.

My bus had arrived a few minutes early so I had to leave in a hurry. ‘’ bye girls, see you both after school, don’t waste time okay.’’ 

The first lecture was history and the teacher really dint like me. I asked Adam, for the homework but he didn't give it to me because he feels like homework was suppose to be done at home and not on a freaking bus, who knew? An asshole like him-how does he call me his best friend seriously?

Whilst sitting next to Adam I looked around in the bus, looking at josh, Andrews, betty I missed spending time with them, we used to joke about the end of the world, conspiracy stories, arguing about which online series to binge next, there wasn’t any noteworthy sitcom currently airing. Betty and Andrew were making out at the back, while James tuned his guitar next to them. Joking around with all of them was the best moments of my life but we have turned into strangers now.

(Meanwhile somewhere in South America)

(Sirens ringing)  “Alert!, alert!, all units surround the building, send ground teams and cover all exits, snipers your target is a girl with a backpack, take her down at once..’’ yelled a commander A officer asked "commander, do you think she’ll come into our hands? She is very good at hiding, we used up a lot of manpower to hunt her down the first time, the boss will be pretty angry, first, the old man got away and now her” “don’t talk about the boss, he..” (Phone starts ringing) “Talk about the devil and he appears” (both laugh)

The commander picks up the call, (a deep voice said)‘’ If you do not get me my work back which has taken years of work, I will kill you both, I want the girl along with the map, back right now” ‘’okay boss, I will get her back, you have my wor…” (Phone disconnects) the officer breaks the phone and yells, ‘’son of a bitc….”
