chapter 5

The liquid tasted so heavenly. I found myself sucking greedily to get more and more. I felt as if my centuries-old thirst was being satisfied. Someone tried to pull my head away. No! I wouldn’t let them take away my treasure from me this time. I held on tightly with determination.

I felt a voice in my mind. Awww...It was Alex. I will come back to you, baby but first let me satisfy my thirst. I am so thirsty that it is painful. You too wouldn’t want me to be in pain, would you?

Eva, You have to stop drinking now. Don’t let those monsters defeat our love.

I heard his voice in my mind. I would deal with him later. I wasn’t going to leave my feast half-way.

I love you, Eva, I could easily die for you but I don’t want a cursed life for you. Please stop drinking. If you don’t stop drinking I won’t survive long……

His hands dropped from mine at that statement. Everything became clear to me. Shit!! I had been drinking Alex’s blood. I healed his cut instantly and glared at those morons, who were busy snickering at our misery.

I felt a surge of fury boiling in me. These idiots had attempted to make me kill Alex. I would kill them if even if it was the only thing I did in my existence. With my fury, my power rose too.

Gripping the bars tightly with both my hands I made way for myself and stepped out. Then I jumped on to Lucifer’s back, holding his head with both my hands. I pulled at it with all my might. A blood-curdling scream escaped his mouth as he tried to remove himself from my grip.

I gritted my teeth and applied more force. A few more moments and I would have successfully beheaded him but Daniel gripped my throat from behind ruining my momentum. He was able to pull me down. After that, it was two against one. I had to concentrate hard to fight both of them at the same time.

I met each of their blows with equal intensity but the blows were increasing in frequency and I was finding it difficult to cope. I had to do something else they would soon have me in their trap again.

I lunged for Lucifer’s throat and bit through his flesh. He let out a scream and staggered. Meanwhile, Daniel had me in his grip again, I bit down hard, on his hand which was around my neck. This forced him to drop his hand. I lunged for his throat but he managed to dodge me and bit my hand instead. Gosh! He was fast. This slowed me down for a moment as I had to heal my hand.

Lucifer had healed himself too by that time. I expected him to attack me but he grabbed Alex in a flash. That was a low blow. I felt as if the cooker of my fury had burst. I had Lucifer in my grip in the fraction of a second and in the next moment I dealt him with such a strong blow that he was knocked out.

Daniel looked at me a bit warily and was more careful. He stayed more on the defensive. I wasn’t getting hurt but he was not letting me get at him too. I was getting impatient since this seemed to be going on for ages. This way our fight would never end.

“ Eva!!No!!!” I heard Alex’s scream and in the next moment, I felt a very sharp object pierce me in the back. It wasn’t very big just the size of a needle. So, I disregarded it and continued to fight.

In a few moments, I felt all energy drain out of me. I was getting weaker and weaker by every passing minute. It was then I realized that I had been stabbed with a monazite crystal.

A monazite crystal is fatal to vampires. I didn’t know that Lucifer had brought along a Monazite crystal else I would have been more cautious. Now it was too late…………..

I had only a few minutes before I would disappear from this world, forever. I was always curious as to what happened after we vanished. I guess it was time to find out.

I wanted to spend these last few moments with Alex.

“ Alex!!!” I croaked out with a lot of difficulty.

He came rushing immediately and held me before I fell on to the ground.

“ Eva!! What has happened?” He asked, his face masked with worry.

I lifted my hands and caressed his face memorizing each of his features. I wanted to carry his memories to afterlife, that is if there was an afterlife.

“How I wish I had forced you to make me wear that beautiful ring you….” I gasped as I was unable to speak further. Alex put his hands in his pocket and took out an object.

I was delighted to see that it was the ring I was talking about. He slipped it onto the ring finger of my left hand gently. Then he picked my hand and touched it to his lips ever so lightly. I closed my eyes embossing the velvety sensation into my memory.

Drops of water dripped onto my hands and I had to open my eyes to see what it was, My heart ached to see the tears flow down Alex’s cheeks.

I wanted to tell him not to cry, that his happiness was paramount to me. I wanted to warn him to be careful, to run away from here whenever he got the chance. I wanted to tell him to never part with his Alexart. I wanted to tell him how much I loved him. Millions of words danced around in my mind but I felt too weak to utter even a single word. So, I just placed my hands on his cheeks hoping to convey everything through my touch.

I looked into his eyes one last time before my eyelids became heavy and drooped shut, my hands dropped from his face and darkness enveloped me in its embrace freeing me from all my pain, worries, and despair.

“ Eva! Eva! Please wake up Eva….” Were the last words I heard before I was lost in oblivion.
