Jones and Williams stood outside the hotel entrance, frustrated that their plan to persuade Darcy had failed. They were under strict orders and so far they were failing. Having someone messing about with time was not the best situation and changing the past could affect the future. However, Darcy had proved to be a problem. Every attempt to stop her, had ended in disaster, and both men realized that they had underestimated her.

Back in 2080, they were told everything about the young girl, who she was and what she did and Darcy Freeman would not cause any trouble. One thing they knew, was she worked hard, had very few friends, and would be determined. Having made a request to make small changes to time, in her virtual simulator, it had been denied, and Darcy was told to carry on as normal. Stealing the device was an opportunity for Darcy and by taking it she had caused panic to spread amongst the company, realizing the problems she could cause.

The two men watched the front entrance, waiting patiently for Darcy to leave the hotel. But there was no sign of her. Jones peered into the lobby hoping to see Darcy sitting casually on a chair, but she was gone.

‘She’s not in there,’ said Jones, as he pointed to the lobby.

‘What!’ Williams was puzzled that they had missed her. ‘Where did she go?’

‘There must be another entrance. Come on.’

The two men sprinted away from the hotel, frustrated that they had been outsmarted again, and at that very moment, caught sight of a yellow taxi driving away, with Darcy sitting in the back seat. She was waving sarcastically at them as she drove away. The cab turned the corner, red brake lights flashed, and then the vehicle drove slowly down the road.

Without hesitation, Williams jumped out into the middle of road, causing the traffic to screech to a halt. He was greeted with shouting and abusive speech, drivers yelled at him for being such an idiot. He ignored the shouts and walked up to a taxi that was already carrying a passenger. He yanked opened the door and with his big hands pulled the passenger out.

‘Get out!’ he yelled, dragging the poor man out the car.

The driver looked confused, as he watched his passenger protest to this crazy situation. Williams got in the back, followed by Jones.

‘Follow that yellow vehicle,’ he said, pointing to yellow cab down the road.

The driver looked up the road, then turned to the two men. The clothes, their size, the expressions on their faces told him they were serious and the driver decided not to question them. He did what they asked and drove the same direction as the cab Darcy was in.

Darcy sat in the back watching the world go by. She felt good and more importantly, she was calm. It was unbelievable that a simple girl could outwit trained soldiers. That thought brought a smile to her face.

Darcy had asked her driver to take her to The Dakota, which prompted him to tell her that the Lennon’s lived there. She nodded politely, saying she was a fan, hoping to see John.

The clock on the taxi’s dashboard said, 6:34am, plenty of time before Chapman was spotted at the apartment. She might even have time to get breakfast. The streets were already busy with people starting their day and the road was congested with traffic, which made the drive slow. The driver made polite conversation with her, telling her various facts about New York, like he was a tour guide. Darcy assumed he was after a tip. It was a strange custom to her, but she was familiar with the concept, after reading about American culture.

He continued his tour guide and Darcy listened patiently, occasionally asking a question that she knew the answer to. He was deeply knowledgeable about the city. Thankfully, it was not too far to The Dakota, and Darcy felt safer taking a taxi rather than walking; there was less chance of meeting Jones and Williams. They certainly were relentless and it still puzzled her that they found her. She thought the device was trackable, not her, but maybe they got lucky and followed her after disappearing from the bank. Again, Darcy smiled thinking about the police. They must have been baffled watching two men vanish in front of them.

Lost in thought, listening to the driver’s history lesson, Darcy was not prepared for the impact. In an instant, her head hit the back of the driver’s seat and she was thrown into her chair. She felt blood dripping from her forehead and her neck hurt.  She then suddenly felt the car jolt forward.

Her driver had been knocked out from the crash, he was slumped over the steering wheel and his foot was firmly pressed on the accelerator. The car was building up speed. Darcy watched in horror as the car headed toward on-coming traffic. It whizzed through a crossroad, barely missing an on-coming car, leaving behind the distant sound of cars honking. She leant over, desperately trying to reach the steering and gripped it just in time as a car swerved out of the way and Darcy pulled at the wheel, causing the taxi to veer away. The car was still going. It was getting faster. The speedometer increased and the taxi zoomed faster down the street. Darcy desperately pulled and tugged at the wheel, dodging, and weaving between the traffic, hoping to avoid the other vehicles. Although she knew about cars, she had no idea how they worked. How do you stop?

Darcy quickly glanced to her left and that is when she saw another taxi, driving at full ahead, heading directly toward her side. The vehicle was accelerating down the street. There was no time to react. In less than a second, the two vehicles collided with a massive bang, sending her crashing into the seat. All she could hear was the sound of scraping metal and the taxi refused to stop, pushing both cars further down the road. Darcy tried again to move the steering wheel, but this time, it was locked.

Without warning, her body lifted off the seat and she was temporary weightless. The impact had been so forceful, it had flipped her vehicle into the air. Jones and Williams stepped out of an identical taxi and in a flash, Darcy saw them and then they were gone. She was spinning through the air, twisting, and turning, while the vehicle rose and then gravity took over and the taxi landed on its roof with a massive thud.

Darcy was thrown about and her head had been knocked so many times, she lost consciousness. The car finally settled. Around her, lots of wreckage scattered the road and the traffic had come to a stop, leaving behind an eerie calm.

Alice had thought a lot about what Adam would ask for next. The logical conclusion was he would ask for fully naked pictures. In her head, Alice had already decided that was what he’d ask for. All that was left to do was wait for the inevitable text message. It wasn’t as if she hadn’t taken nudes before, but she had always been careful to keep any defining features and her face obscured. Maybe Adam would let her do the same. If she asked nicely. Why did he need to see her face a
