Chapter 2

Cindy's face instantly went pale.

Her whole body shook uncontrollably as she watched her kidnappers approach her step by step.

At that moment, someone burst through the window and dozens of black-clad bodyguards rushed in, instantly beating the kidnappers and knocking them unconscious.

The middle-aged man in the lead stepped forward and respectfully said to Cindy, "Miss, we're sorry we didn't come to your rescue in time. Sir Gilson is waiting for you at the Hillside Villa."

At the Hillside villa, Franklin, who was in his advanced age but still full of vitality, leaned on a cane, exuding the aura of a superior. His grave face, however, expressed concern when he saw Cindy.

"Cindy, did they hurt you? The doctor will be here soon. You've been through a lot," Franklin said.

Cindy's face was expressionless as she bowed to him. "Just some minor injuries, nothing serious."

"No one will mention this incident. I will find out who did it," Franklin added.

The news of Cindy's abduction would no doubt have a huge impact on the Gilson Group. Cindy nodded in understanding. "Okay."

Franklin summoned doctors to have a body check for Cindy. There were no major injuries other than minor cuts and bruises, which relieved Franklin.

After tending to her wounds, Cindy fell into a deep sleep.

She did not wake up until it was dark outside.

The sound of a car horn could be heard outside the window, and shortly after, the bedroom door swung open.

There was a refreshing scent of polished wood, mingled with a hint of delicate feminine perfume.

Cindy's eyes flickered with an indefinable emotion, but it lasted only a second.

Normally, at this moment, she would turn on the light and say pleasingly, "Mr. Gilson, you're back."

But today she lay still, pretending to sleep with her eyes closed.

In an instant, something sank behind her, and then a large hand came to her waist.

Cindy furrowed her brows at the icy touch, but she remained calm, moving forward subtly to put some distance between them.

Unexpectedly, the man behind her paused for a moment, and then, without mercy, forcibly drew her back.

The movement tugged at Cindy's wound, causing her face to turn pale with pain.

The pent-up anger and inexplicable resentment surged within her and threatened to burst forth.

She raised her hand and pushed him away with just the right amount of force.

Evidently, Trevon had not expected such a response from her. His face darkened quickly as he seized her by the shoulders and violently turned her over, partly pinning her down.

"What are you pretending for? It was you who called Grandpa and urged me to come back and take care of you. And now that I'm here, you're playing hard to get again."

The word "again" revealed his impatience and disdain for Cindy.

...

It seemed that his presence here was the result of pressure from Franklin.

And Trevon naturally assumed that this was Cindy's ruse all over again.

For an instant, Cindy clenched her fingers. The darkness hid her pain and the melancholy she felt at that moment.

She gazed into the man's captivating eyes and smiled as she spoke. "No matter what tricks I have played, as long as you come back, it's enough."

Trevon sneered, "You got guts. In that case, how will you compensate for the losses caused by your screwed cooperation?"

"..."

Cindy's smile froze on her face. The interrupted cooperation was already a well-planned trap. As the one who was kidnapped, she was the biggest victim. Why should she bear the loss?

Why did it seem to her that Trevon, judging from his words, was unconscious of everything?

But then she realized that she had called Trevon for help, and he had chosen to ignore it.

Perhaps, Trevon was eager for her to die early so that he could hand over the title of "Mrs. Gilson" to Annie.

With that in mind, Cindy's voice turned cold. "Rest assured, I will provide a satisfactory answer to the board of directors."

"Answer? You should think about how to compensate," Trevon said, while his hand was already undoing her clothes.

Cindy was startled and turned around, only to find her hand unknowingly pressing on the spot where Annie had slashed her wrist. Due to the external pressure, the wound burst open again, and blood gushed out.The blood stained Annie's entire hand in a horrifying manner. Before Cindy could even utter a word in shock, she was forcefully pushed to the ground, her head hitting the cabinet hard."Doctor, call a doctor!" Therefore, she took hold of Annie's hand with one hand, while the other arm wrapped around Annie's shoulder. This intimate gesture made it seem like they were close friends engaged in a casual conversation."I decided to have my husband come and take care of you first this time. After all, you have made significant contributions to the company. Both my husband and I appreciate your efforts, don't we, dear?"Cindy spoke with a smile, her slender fingers playing with her flowing hair. Suddenly, the faint marks on her neck, suggestive yet attention-grabbing, became visible.Annie's face turned pale with anger, and beads of sweat began to form on her forehead. The onlookers showed meaningful expressions, occasionally accompanied by envious comments.Trevon didn't anticipate being drawn into Cindy's performance. "Don't underestimate yourself. I've learned so much from you in the year I've been at the company. Now I can handle projects on my own. Can you imagine? A year ago, I couldn't even speak a sentence properly," Elle said with a smile. It is indeed true. As Cindy reminisced about the first time she saw Elle, before she could even utter a single word, she saw Elle becoming nervous, blushing, and even shedding tears. This scene couldn't help but make Cindy burst into laughter.Seeing Cindy in a slightly better mood, Elle breathed a sigh of relief. They had a tough fight ahead of them. She instinctively tightened her grip on the steering wheel and said, "You're so great. Cindy spent a full four hours bustling in the kitchen. Finally, she looked at the three dishes and a soup on the table and wiped the sweat off her forehead. Accidentally she tugged her wound and let out a painful "ouch."To be honest, this was her first time cooking. Before her parents passed away, she was the princess they doted on. They would even feed her water by hand. After marrying into the Gilson family, although her status couldn't compare to before, she was still the young hostess and didn't need to cook for herself. So, she had no culinary skills to speak of. Today, she used all her abilities to prepare this meal, and despite her efforts, she still ended up with several cuts on her fingers.Though it hurt, she felt a sense of accomplishment.Cindy gently blew on the wound, removed the damp band-aid, and replaced it with a dry one.
