« Noah, tu es si gentil avec moi... » Ambre a poussé un soupir de soulagement en baissant ses yeux.

« Ne dis pas de bêtises. Couche-toi tôt. »

Ambre a hoché la tête. Elle a édité et envoyé un texto quand Noah ne le voyait pas, puis elle a rangé nerveusement son téléphone.

« Candice... » Dans la chambre familière, Noah a appelé le nom de Candice, de manière inconsciente. Il demeurait stupéfait pendant un moment, et puis a froncé les sourcils, un peu mécontent.

« Noah, tu m'as appelée tout à l'heure ? » A demandé Ambre avec doute quand elle est sortie de la salle de bain en pyjama

« Oui, je te demande si tu as froid. » Ambre a le plus peur du froid. Il a demandé à la bonne d'allumer le chauffage au maximum, mais il craignait toujours qu'elle ait froid.

Il ne s'inquiétait pas du tout pour Candice qui était malade et avait de la fièvre... Elle séjournait toujours dans l’appartement loué, enceinte.

« Candice, tu seras inutile après la naissance de l'enfant, tu pourras mourir. »

« Noah, ne fais pas cela, Noah ! »

Soudainement réveillée, Candice respirait goulûment l'air pur.

Elle a fait un rêve, un cauchemar.

Elle a regardé par la fenêtre, avec le corps engourdi. C'était l'aube.

La neige à l'extérieur de la fenêtre était magnifique.

« Noah… »

Candice pensait que Noah allait bientôt apparaître. Elle avait si froid, son corps était tellement chaud qu'elle pouvait à peine le tenir.

L'horloge démodée sur le mur a continué à sonner, et Candice a attendu une heure après l'autre, en retenant sa somnolence.

Il était midi, Noah n'est pas encore apparu.

« Ha... » A souri Candice. Elle a levé la main pour couvrir son front.

Qu'est-ce qu'elle attend encore.

Cet homme, quand a-t-il tenu sa promesse ?

Toc, toc. Un coup vint de l'extérieur de la porte.

Candice s'est réveillée soudainement et est tombée du lit avec un rythme cardiaque rapide.

Il est là…

« Noah... » Elle a ouvert la porte avec les doigts gelés. Le vent froid a pénétré dedans. La personne qui se tenait dehors n'était pas Noah.

« Merde, est-ce que c'est un hébergement pour des êtres humains ? » Nathan était un peu dégoûté. Il a demandé aux gens de trouver un endroit sûr qui n'était pas facile à trouver, alors ils ont trouvé un tel endroit ?

Candice était tout désappointée. Son corps était sur le point de tomber.

« Tu… » Il y avait une pause avant que Nathan ait rapidement ramassé Candice. « Ne me dis pas que Noah t'a laissée dans le froid toute la nuit ? »

Candice était si étourdie qu'elle n'avait aucune force pour s’éloigner de Nathan.

« Alors... » Nathan a grondé à voix basse et a touché le front de Candice. « Bon sang ! »

L’appartement loué était très vide, et les fenêtres étaient cassées. La température à l'intérieur n'était pas beaucoup plus élevée qu'à l'extérieur. Il n'y avait même pas de literie sur le lit. Comment cette faible fille a-t-elle pu le supporter toute la nuit.

Hôpital central.

Candice est restée longtemps dans le coma. Elle a senti la chaleur autour de lui, et a essayé désespérément de se rapprocher.

« La patiente a pris des contraceptifs et il y a une menace d'avortement. Si elle ne prend pas bien soin d'elle-même, j'ai peur qu'elle ne puisse pas garder le bébé. »

« C'est trop misérable. Est-elle dans l'ancienne société ? Ses pieds sont gelés. Elle n'a pas de chaussures à porter ? »

« Mais oui, regarde ses mains, les mains si belles sont devenues rouges et enflées, personne ne se soucie d’elle ? »

L'infirmière se tenait à côté du médecin avec l’air regret. Elle s'est sentie désolée pour Candice.

Candice a ouvert les yeux, elle regardait tout le monde avec panique.

« N'ayez pas peur, c'est l'hôpital, a dit le médecin, nous allons prendre bien soin de vous. » L'infirmière a rapidement versé un verre d'eau chaude et lui a donné avec sourire. « Dépêchez-vous de boire de l'eau chaude, avez-vous faim ? »

Candice était dépassée. Elle a pris l'eau chaude et a bu avec précaution. Elle était aussi panique comme un cerf effrayé.

« Ouah, tu as une grande résistance. Si quelqu’un te jette dans la boue, tu peux encore fleurir. » A dit Nathan avec un ton ridiculisé en entrant par la porte avec le cahier de cas.

Candice a posé son verre avec peur. Elle s'est blottie nerveusement au coin du lit, regardant Nathan avec vigilance.

« Tellement peur de moi ? » Nathan voulait de plus en plus l’intimider. Il voulait lever la main pour lui pincer son menton.

« Aïe ! » Il a poussé un soupir étouffé et a retiré sa main à cause de la douleur.

Ce petit lapin... pouvait vraiment mordre !

« Tu ne veux plus garder ton enfant ? » A demandé Nathan, souriant.

Candice a paniqué. Elle regardait Nathan nerveusement. « Mon enfant… »

« Il va bien, mais tu es en mauvais état. Si tu veux garder l'enfant, tu dois prendre bien soin de ton corps. » Nathan a levé la tête et a regardé le goutte-à-goutte, puis il a jeté un coup d'œil à l'aiguille de perfusion sur le poignet de Candice avec les sourcils froncés. « Ta main est enflée, tu ne ressens pas de douleur ? »

Candice n'a pas remarqué le dos rouge et enflé de sa main jusqu'à ce moment, ses yeux ternes.

Je n'ai ressenti aucune douleur...

« Tu es vraiment... » Nathan a levé la tête et a soupiré. Comment Noah pouvait-il intimider un tel imbécile.
