chapter 41

Gina had totally forgotten to meet the girls like they had planned. She remembered Irene said something about them wanting to talk to her about something. So, when Ama called her to let her know her friends were in the premises, she knew she was in trouble. Gina asked Ama to let them in. Erica was the first one to enter, followed by Irene and Rita.

All three girls were brown skinned just like Gina and looked very beautiful. But their dressing and lifestyle were very questionable.
Gina welcomed them as they all sat down.

" Can I get you girls anything to drink?" she smiled at them.

Irene spoke first. " No, I am fine. Maybe the others might want something", she shrugged.

" No, thank you. I'm good", Erica said, next.

" Same here", Rita replied.

" Okay, so what brings you girls here? It's been a while since I saw you girls here", Gina said.

" Yes it has. The situation has called for us to all be here. I think we also need Ama to be present as well", Irene said, seriously.

Gina did not like it when Irene sounded like that. It meant big trouble but she was ready to face her friend's anger.

" Why do you want her to be here? I don't even get why Gina is still friends with her", Erica sneered.

" Come on, girls. What's going on? And why do you, Erica, hate Ama so much?" Gina added.

" Me? I don't hate her. I only don't like the way she is. She always makes it look like she is the better one amongst us, which is not even true, by the way", Erica said.

" Do I presume you are just jealous of her then?" Gina joked.

Erica glared at her and rolled her eyes. She was annoyed Gina was defending Ama like she was some sort of a saint. She really hated it.

" Can you just call the girl? Or should I do it?" Irene asked, raising her voice a bit too high.

" I will call her, I will call her. Give me a minute", Gina held her forefinger up.

She picked the phone on her table and called Ama to join them. Ama later came in and sat beside Rita.

" So whats going on here? Why did you guys call me?" she asked.

" We want you to be present here for what we are about to ask Gina. So, Gina, we hear you are about to get married. How true is that?" she asked, turning her attention back to Gina.

Gina was dumbstruck for a while. " Erm, yes... I-I am getting married in a few months", she managed to say.

" What? And when were you planning on telling us?" Rita asked, just evident in her voice.

" Calm down girls. I am sure Gina must have a logical explanation for this", Irene cooed.

" Actually I do. It's my father who wants me to get married so I just want to grant his wishes", Gina replied, like it was a normal thing.

" And since when have you been listening to what your father says? I'm really disappointed in you, Gina", Erica said.

" But, I thought you guys were going to be happy for me. Come on, I'm 32. Don't you think it's time I got settled down at least? I am not getting any younger, you know", Gina countered.

" Yes, Gina. We know you are not getting any younger. You should have told us, at least. We are your friends. Don't you trust us anymore?" Irene asked.

" I trust you guys. And, I am sorry I made you feel that way. It was not my intention. I wanted to get everything done before I tell you. I am really sorry girls", Gina apologized.

" But, why don't you look surprised like us? You seem very quiet", Erica pointed at Ama.

" I already know about it. So why should I be surprised?" Ama replied.

" No wonder. I am not surprised", Erica sneered.

" What is that supposed to mean? Do you have anything against me?" Ama looked confused.

" Me? Have anything against you? Why would I?" Erica looked Ama up and down and rolled her eyes.

" That's enough, girls! Well, I am glad this has been cleared up. So, can you tell us who the guy is? Do we know him?" Irene cut in.

" Yes, you do. It's Jeffrey. Jeffrey Asante", Gina nodded.

" Wait! Is it the same Jeffrey Asante, that reporter who works with your father? The one with the most beautiful eyes ever?" Rita asked, excitedly. The rest of the girls looked at her in shock.

" What? The guy does have dreamy eyes. Have you girls even met him?" Rita defended herself.

" I did not know that's how you felt about my boyfriend. And yes, he is the one", Gina said.

Rita squealed, making Erica jump up, since she was seated beside her. She frowned and hit Rita on the hand.

" Hey! What was that for?" Rita shouted.

" Next time, don't squeal like that. Do you know how annoying you sound when you do that?" Erica shouted back.

" Okay, if you girls are done bickering, can we go back to the discussion at hand? Well, Gina, we are happy you are getting married. But I hope, it won't affect our relationship as friends?" Irene asked.

" It won't affect anything. I promise you", Gina replied hurriedly.

" Good, then. Now that we have gotten that out of the way, I think we should leave, then", Irene said and got up. The other girls got up too.

" So, we will see you later, tonight?" Irene winked.

" Tonight?" Gina was lost now.

Irene felt annoyed. " Kelvin's party?"

" Oh yes, yes. I will be there", Gina nodded.

" Very good. We will see you then. Bye, girls", Irene said and headed towards the door, with the other two, following her.

Ama got up from her seat and walked over to Gina. She then sat on the chair, opposite hers.

" I don't know why, but, Irene always scares me. There is just something about her", Ama complained.

" She is just a woman, who knows what she wants", Gina replied.

" Deep down, I don't think they are really happy that you are getting married. You know, Irene, especially, is the kind of woman who does not believe in marriage. She is all about having fun and partying all night long", Ama said.

" I know that. I'm just glad they did not get too angry with me", Gina sighed.

" Alright then. You did not tell me how things went at your father's house. How was the dinner?" Ama pointed out.

Gina smiled.
