I even changed my number. I can't lie like I don't miss him but my heart was more important to me now. I could not afford to make the same mistakes again. Damien has been real supportive. He had been at the house more. It was Christmas Day Sunday so we decided we was gone spend the weekend at the house as a family.
We was all in the living room putting the finishing touches on the Christmas tree. I was in a festive move. I love this time of year. The kids was all happy to have their dad their. He was running around the house acting like a little kid his self.
"Who wanna put the star on top of the tree this year?" I asked the kids.
"I think Aza should do it." Replied Damien. "She have never did it before. She was always too little."
He reached down and put her on his shoulder as I hand her the crystal star. I could see the joy in her eyes. She handle the star with care, as if it was a precious family heirloom. My baby has a look of pride on her face. I wish moments like this could last forever.
I cleaned up the boxes and paper that was left on the floor as the rest of the family went in the family room to play. After I got done, I picked up the phone to call Kita.
"Hey, friend." I greeted her.
"What's up honey." She answered.
"Nothing really. Just got three putting up the tree with Damien and the kids. They left me as soon as the star got on top. Probably in their on the game."
"What the hell Damien doing over their. I thought you was done with his cheating ass." She replied.
See this is why you don't put your friends in your business. They will never understand how you feel about a person. Yes, we was done but he was still my kids father. And he will always be welcome to spend as much time with them as he wanted. I would never take the holidays from him.
