chapter 2

Penulis: A Sleeve Full Of Cloud
“Verian Mont! Why are you here?”

Suddenly, the cold voice of a middle-aged woman resonated across the room. She turned around and saw her stepmother, Queena Sheen, walking in from outside.

The scumbag couple upstairs looked down as they heard the commotion.

A hint of panic flashed across Jensen’s eyes. “Verian, you, why are you back?”

Verian Mont sneered and stared at Jensen. “This is my house, why can’t I come back?”

Wanelle Sheen, who was still in Jensen’s embrace, raised the corner of her red lips and scoffed, “Your house? This villa does not belong to the Mont Family anymore.”

Verian Mont frowned, “What do you mean?”

Dressed in a mini skirt and high heels, Wanelle Sheen walked down the stairs. “Your father, Grayson Mont, committed suicide by jumping off a building 10 months ago. He left behind a huge pile of debt. This villa would have been mortgaged if it wasn’t for my mother! Thus, this house does not belong to the Mont Family anymore. It is now the property of the Sheen’s Family!”

‘Jumped off a building… committed suicide? How is that possible!’

Verian Mont grabbed Wanelle Sheen’s collar. Paleness washed over her face as she bellowed in anger, “This is nonsense! How is it possible that my dad committed suicide by jumping off a building! Make it clear!”

“Talk nicely and keep your hands off me! Verian Mont, let me go!”

Boom!

Jensen shoved Verian hard to the ground.

An excruciating pain shot through her body!

She glared at Jensen and Wanelle Sheen with bloodshot eyes. “Give me back my father! Did both of you join hands to kill my father?!”

“Enough! You still have the nerve to ask about your father? Where were you when your father was in trouble! You vanished without a trace for 10 months, and only now you think of your father? Hah! Your short-lived father was forced by the creditors to commit suicide a long time ago!”

“It’s impossible! I credited 10 million to his account! It’s impossible for him to commit suicide out of desperation!”

“10 million? Hah, stop daydreaming! Where did you get 10 million?”

Verian Mont’s head throbbed. A frightening assumption flashed across her mind as she stared at Wanelle Sheen’s evil eyes.

Queena Sheen, her father’s second wife, who was also her stepmother, kept the 10 million that she earned by sacrificing her dignity and innocence to herself.

The 10 million was the money to save her father!

Verian Mont trembled. She said in a quivering voice, “You kept the 10 million, didn’t you? You were the ones who killed my father, right?! Give me back my father! You all should give me back my father…!”

She stood up. Swiftly, she grabbed a fruit knife on the table and waved the knife at Queena Sheen and Wanelle Sheen!

“Ahhh! She’s crazy! Jensen! Stop that lunatic!”

Jensen grabbed her wrist. The knife slit her arm and fell to the ground, and Jensen kicked it away.

Feeling defensive, Queena Sheen stared at her and yelled furiously, “Wanelle! Get her father’s urn and give it back to her!”

With her mouth open, Verian Mont stared blankly at the urn.

‘Father’s urn… Is he really inside?’

Queena Sheen snatched the urn and tossed it towards Verian Mont. “Cemeteries nowadays are so expensive! Leaving the urn at home will bring us bad luck too! Take it! Don’t tell anyone that you know us when you see us in the future!”

Verian Mont embraced the urn tightly as tears dripped down her cheeks. “Father… why did you commit suicide… I didn’t get the chance to see your face for the last time. How could you leave me… you said that you will wait for me to come back… you promised me…”

“Get out of here with your father’s urn! Jensen! Kick her out!”

Jensen dragged her by her injured arm and pushed her out of the door. He ‘kindly’ threw a hundred-dollar bill at her. “Verian Mont, it’s going to rain heavily soon. Take a cab and leave now! Don’t ever come back here again!”

She held tightly onto the hundred-dollar bill. “Are you trying to send a beggar away?”

In a matter of seconds, the bill was torn into pieces by her slender fingers. She threw the money into his face. “Jensen, I swear at any cost that you and the Sheens will pay back more than a thousand times for what you did to me in the future!”

Impatience crossed Jensen’s brows, and he slammed the door hard!

A gust of wind washed over her pale face as the door was slammed shut. It was piercing cold.

Hugging her father’s urn, Verian Mont dragged her exhausted body and walked in the heavy rain. Her silhouette appeared long and lonely under the dark.

“Father, I am bringing you back home.”

After walking for a while, Verian Mont’s weak knees gave in. She plopped down and knelt in the freezing rain. She carefully embraced the urn and covered it with her slender arms. Her pale and petite face looked down, and the corner of her mouth twitched. “Father, Verian can’t go any further. We lost our house… but one day, I will bring you back to our house…!”

A dazzling light suddenly appeared under the rainy night.

An understated luxurious, limited-edition, black Maybach braked and stopped abruptly.

The driver looked out from the window and saw the weak figure that had passed out. Nervously, he said, “President Fudd, we’re in trouble. We just hit a woman.”

It was hard to see the man’s emotions as his cold face was hidden in the dark. He spoke with an emotionless voice, “Carry her inside and take her to the hospital.”

Serene realized she was on a hospital bed when she woke up. She raised her hand and saw it was inserted with an IV. "Dr. Hayes, what happened?" "Well, do you know that you have low blood pressure? You forget everything when you're working. You could have been in big trouble if we didn't treat it in time. You're lucky you fainted in the hospital. What if it happened in the middle of nowhere? Who would get you to the hospital then?" Serene felt a little embarrassed after Dr. Hayes lectured her. She apologized, "I'm sorry for troubling you, Dr. Hayes." "Get some rest. Don't rush back to your department after the drip is done. Be good, and rest well." "Dr. Hayes, I'm fine… I will eat some chocolate." Dr. Hayes gave her a piercing look just after she finished her sentence. "Silly girl! You are okay, but the baby in your belly needs rest." Serene was stunned; she thought she had misheard it. "Dr. Hayes, what did you say?" What? A baby? Dr. Hayes looked at her in shock. "You

The next morning, Serene grabbed two steamed buns and headed straight to the hospital. She did not even accompany Wilson at breakfast. Wilson felt that the woman was a little upset after he told her that he did not want kids for the time being. After a busy morning at work, Serene had lunch in the canteen with her colleagues. She had lunch with a head nurse and a female doctor from their department. The doctor asked, "Nurse, why is Lydia absent today?" Lydia was a young nurse from their department. The chubby head nurse said, "Didn't you guys know that Lydia is pregnant? She's about three months pregnant, and she's doing her antenatal check-up in our hospital." Serene was slightly stunned. "I thought Lydia is not married yet?" "That's the problem. She got pregnant out of wedlock, and that's what made it more cumbersome. Her boyfriend has a weird family. He grew up in a poor family, and he's not local. He came from a place where the couple can only get married if she giv

They were done with their game and business talks. Jinn had a run of bad luck with the cards that night; he had burned through most of his cash. He and Xander were still single, and they could not stand it when Heaton and Wilson flaunted their love. So, the two of them decided to leave earlier. Little Jelly Bean saw a rainbow cake from another table as they exited the Supreme Restaurant. Since his daughter wanted to have some dessert, he suggested they go for an afternoon tea before they headed home. Heaton ordered a whole table of desserts that the girls loved. It was all on Jinn, anyway. Verian said teasingly, "Jinn really picked the wrong friends." Heaton raised his eyebrows. "He's the owner of this restaurant; just make yourself at home." Little Jelly Bean dug into her strawberry ice cream. Her lips were smudged when she said, "Daddy, since we earned so much money today, can you bring me to the amusement park and buy me fried chicken this weekend?" Heaton stared at his

Serene wrapped her arms around Wilson's neck. She appeared taller than the man as her legs encircled his waist. The woman furrowed her brows and glared at him. "Why didn't you approach me earlier if you already knew who I am?" If he had approached her earlier, she would have chosen a handsome and loyal guy like him instead of wasting three years of her youth with a guy like Chainer. Serene recalled her school days and thought about how she had been such a fool. Chainer never cared about her, but she always threw herself at him. Her last bit of fondness toward Chainer was all but gone after he tried to defame Wilson. Wilson carried her and put her on top of the kitchen counter. He supported himself with both hands pressed against the kitchen counter. "I've thought about approaching you earlier, but my identity and my job were too unusual. Furthermore, you were too young back then, too. I was afraid that I would scare you away." Serene asked, "Aren't you afraid that I would l

Wilson was prepared to cook dinner after they got back to the apartment. "What do you want to eat for dinner?" "Stir-fried shredded potatoes with green pepper and tomato egg drop soup." Wilson opened the refrigerator and took the ingredients that he needed. "Again? Aren't you sick of them?" Serene ran to the kitchen from the living room. She stared at Wilson and asked hesitantly, "Hey… I need to ask you something." "Go ahead." Serene took a deep breath and solemnly said, "Chainer told me that you stole his woman." Stole his woman? Wilson wanted to laugh when he heard that. He put the tomatoes on the table and looked at Serene. "Did he tell you how I stole his woman?" Serene nodded and said, "He said you knew about Gwen's crush on him. So, you drank him under the table and made him sleep with Gwen after that." Wilson remained calm. He stared at her with his dark eyes. "If what he said was true, would you blame and hate me for it?" Serene bit her lips and frowned. "

Serene turned around and was about to enter the office when Chainer grabbed her arm. Serene pulled back and turned around to look at him. "Is there anything else you need?" "Come on, Serene. Can't we talk about other stuff besides these usual platitudes?" Serene was amused. "Mr. Chainer, have you forgotten that we are no longer together? On top of that, we broke up a long time ago. I have a boyfriend now, and you have a fiancée; we shouldn't meet privately considering our current situation. If you want to send us your wedding invitation, you can get Gwen to give it to Wilson since they're related." "But you have your card, and he has his. You guys are not married yet, right?" Serene answered frankly, "Even though we're not married yet, we'll get married eventually." A trace of unhappiness flashed in Chainer's eyes. "Are you really planning to marry him?" Serene stared at him in disbelief and started to laugh. "Mr. Chainer, I don't think it's any of your business." "You
