chapter 5

Author: A Sleeve Full Of Cloud
It was 8pm. Guin brought Verian, who was well dressed up, to the grandeur dinner party.

A row of identical limited edition luxury cars were parked outside the venue. Those who attended the party were all wealthy and influential people like presidents, socialites, and scions. Of course, there were also exceptions like Verian Mont, the famous damsel in distress of North City.

Although the incident was over, some past could not be that easily erased from people’s hearts.

Guin pointed at a tall figure who was standing not far away from them and whispered to Verian, “That is Heaton Fudd, do you want to talk to him? However, Rainie, let me give you a gentle advice, think twice before you act.”

Glamour shrouded the man. He was surrounded by gorgeous and outstanding women.

Verian took a deep breath and the corner of her lips curled up into a faint smile. She grabbed a glass of champagne and was about to walk toward the man in her high heels. Suddenly, Guin grabbed her arm. “Are you going to approach him like this? Girl, do you know that you will be doomed if you just walk over like this? Look at those b*tches around him, all of them are …busty!”

Guin puffed her chest. She pulled the neckline of Verian’s evening dress until it was right enough to show her tempting cleavage.

Verian was an easily shy person. Her ears flushed red.

Guin raised her fist and said, “Trust me, Verian. You can do this!”

She mustered up her courage and lightly flipped her hair with her fingers. Then, she walked towards the man gracefully.

Verian attracted a lot of attention as she walked towards Heaton Fudd. Some were suspicious, some were doubtful, and some were surprised.

“This girl looks familiar.”

“I think I saw her before. I remembered! It seems like she’s the daughter of the Mont Family who went bankrupt three years ago!”

“Huh…? The Mont Family was very miserable back then. Her father, Grayson Mont, committed suicide by jumping off a building. Rumors said that it was a very tragic scene!”

“I even heard that her stepmother and stepsister chased her out of the house, leaving her with nothing!”

“She disappeared for so long yet she dared to come back to this circle, doesn’t she know that a hairless phoenix is not as good as a chicken? [1]”

Verian stood straighter amidst the clamorous discussion behind her.

That was right, she was Verian Mont. She had been down in the dumps, but that could not stop her determination from ‘taking’ Heaton Fudd’s heart tonight!

Under the dazzling chandelier, the man turned around while holding a champagne. Suddenly, his cold gaze fell on the woman’s face that was walking towards him.

“President Fudd, nice to meet you. I’m Verian Mont.”

She politely stretched out her hand to greet him. However, he stared at her fair hands coldly and sipped his champagne under the gaze of the onlookers. He did not have the intention to greet her back.

She was not angry; neither did she felt awkward. Instead, she continued speaking in a soft tone, “President Fudd, I heard that you had bought out the land along the Navy Road. My father’s villa is also located along the Navy Road. Could you please show us some mercy…”

Before she finished her words, Heaton had already put one hand in his pocket and turned away, wanting to leave coldly.

Verian was a little bit anxious. “President Fudd, I know that you’re very busy. Could you spare me just five minutes?”

The light from the chandelier shone on his face, emphasizing his cold and stern side face. He gave her a side-eye and said, “Who are you for me to spare you five minutes?”

The onlookers were waiting to see her make a fool of herself.

Verian’s heart was drumming hard, but she appeared abnormally calm. Her lips adorned in bright red lipstick curled into a smile. She walked and stopped in front of Heaton. Lips right next to his ears, she whispered in an ambiguous tone, “President Fudd, if you don’t mind, we can have a whole night’s time.”

Verian usually looked down on using honey-traps, but she had to use the method tonight. She despised herself but at the same time, she had to throw herself forward and use her last card.

Heaton turned his head slightly; his black eyes stared at her crimsoned face sharply and clearly. He then said, “Miss Mont, it seems like this is not our first time meeting each other.”

Looking at the current situation, the woman could really be feigning an accident three years ago?

Verian was confused and her brows turned into a faint frown. Heaton pushed aside her small hand circling his neck.

Verian did not give up. She trotted after him. The man stopped deliberately and she bumped into his broad back with a hard thud to her nose.

Donned with high heels, she could barely balance herself.

“President Fudd, the villa means a lot to me, I beg you…”

Heaton turned around and saw the woman’s red and helpless eyes. He kept his patience and stood in front of her in his shining black leather shoes. He lifted his slender fingers and lifted her dress which was deliberately pulled down. He spoke in a bland tone, “Girl, you should love yourself more if you’re not ready to go all out.”

Emotions like anger, joy, or sympathy could not be sensed in his tone. It was so cold it could send shivers down one’s spine.

She stood still under the light, staring at the back of the man leaving. The people were sneering and gesticulating at her.

“I told you! It’s impossible that President Fudd is interested in her!”

“I know right. President Fudd even rejected a famous celebrity last month, why would he care about a damsel in distress?”

Guin who was looking for food rushed over as she sensed something bad. She grabbed Verian and walked out of the venue quickly.

Guin patted her chest and swore, “Ignore those people. You approached Heaton to let him keep the Mont Family’s villa, am I right? Don’t you worry, I’ll settle this!”

Verian’s voice cracked as she bit her lips. “Guinnie, I’m fine. I’m not humiliated by Heaton, I’m just worried that I would not be able to stop the Fudd’s demolition project within a week.”

Guin lightly bumped Verian with her shoulder. “There are always unforeseen circumstances in everything. Who knows? Heaton may not demolish your villa?”

“Let’s not talk about this anymore. By the way, you told me you’re going to introduce me to a lucrative job this morning. Which company is it?”

Guin blinked her eyes mischievously. “The Department of Art and Design in Fudd’s group.”

Serene realized she was on a hospital bed when she woke up. She raised her hand and saw it was inserted with an IV. "Dr. Hayes, what happened?" "Well, do you know that you have low blood pressure? You forget everything when you're working. You could have been in big trouble if we didn't treat it in time. You're lucky you fainted in the hospital. What if it happened in the middle of nowhere? Who would get you to the hospital then?" Serene felt a little embarrassed after Dr. Hayes lectured her. She apologized, "I'm sorry for troubling you, Dr. Hayes." "Get some rest. Don't rush back to your department after the drip is done. Be good, and rest well." "Dr. Hayes, I'm fine… I will eat some chocolate." Dr. Hayes gave her a piercing look just after she finished her sentence. "Silly girl! You are okay, but the baby in your belly needs rest." Serene was stunned; she thought she had misheard it. "Dr. Hayes, what did you say?" What? A baby? Dr. Hayes looked at her in shock. "You

The next morning, Serene grabbed two steamed buns and headed straight to the hospital. She did not even accompany Wilson at breakfast. Wilson felt that the woman was a little upset after he told her that he did not want kids for the time being. After a busy morning at work, Serene had lunch in the canteen with her colleagues. She had lunch with a head nurse and a female doctor from their department. The doctor asked, "Nurse, why is Lydia absent today?" Lydia was a young nurse from their department. The chubby head nurse said, "Didn't you guys know that Lydia is pregnant? She's about three months pregnant, and she's doing her antenatal check-up in our hospital." Serene was slightly stunned. "I thought Lydia is not married yet?" "That's the problem. She got pregnant out of wedlock, and that's what made it more cumbersome. Her boyfriend has a weird family. He grew up in a poor family, and he's not local. He came from a place where the couple can only get married if she giv

They were done with their game and business talks. Jinn had a run of bad luck with the cards that night; he had burned through most of his cash. He and Xander were still single, and they could not stand it when Heaton and Wilson flaunted their love. So, the two of them decided to leave earlier. Little Jelly Bean saw a rainbow cake from another table as they exited the Supreme Restaurant. Since his daughter wanted to have some dessert, he suggested they go for an afternoon tea before they headed home. Heaton ordered a whole table of desserts that the girls loved. It was all on Jinn, anyway. Verian said teasingly, "Jinn really picked the wrong friends." Heaton raised his eyebrows. "He's the owner of this restaurant; just make yourself at home." Little Jelly Bean dug into her strawberry ice cream. Her lips were smudged when she said, "Daddy, since we earned so much money today, can you bring me to the amusement park and buy me fried chicken this weekend?" Heaton stared at his

Serene wrapped her arms around Wilson's neck. She appeared taller than the man as her legs encircled his waist. The woman furrowed her brows and glared at him. "Why didn't you approach me earlier if you already knew who I am?" If he had approached her earlier, she would have chosen a handsome and loyal guy like him instead of wasting three years of her youth with a guy like Chainer. Serene recalled her school days and thought about how she had been such a fool. Chainer never cared about her, but she always threw herself at him. Her last bit of fondness toward Chainer was all but gone after he tried to defame Wilson. Wilson carried her and put her on top of the kitchen counter. He supported himself with both hands pressed against the kitchen counter. "I've thought about approaching you earlier, but my identity and my job were too unusual. Furthermore, you were too young back then, too. I was afraid that I would scare you away." Serene asked, "Aren't you afraid that I would l

Wilson was prepared to cook dinner after they got back to the apartment. "What do you want to eat for dinner?" "Stir-fried shredded potatoes with green pepper and tomato egg drop soup." Wilson opened the refrigerator and took the ingredients that he needed. "Again? Aren't you sick of them?" Serene ran to the kitchen from the living room. She stared at Wilson and asked hesitantly, "Hey… I need to ask you something." "Go ahead." Serene took a deep breath and solemnly said, "Chainer told me that you stole his woman." Stole his woman? Wilson wanted to laugh when he heard that. He put the tomatoes on the table and looked at Serene. "Did he tell you how I stole his woman?" Serene nodded and said, "He said you knew about Gwen's crush on him. So, you drank him under the table and made him sleep with Gwen after that." Wilson remained calm. He stared at her with his dark eyes. "If what he said was true, would you blame and hate me for it?" Serene bit her lips and frowned. "

Serene turned around and was about to enter the office when Chainer grabbed her arm. Serene pulled back and turned around to look at him. "Is there anything else you need?" "Come on, Serene. Can't we talk about other stuff besides these usual platitudes?" Serene was amused. "Mr. Chainer, have you forgotten that we are no longer together? On top of that, we broke up a long time ago. I have a boyfriend now, and you have a fiancée; we shouldn't meet privately considering our current situation. If you want to send us your wedding invitation, you can get Gwen to give it to Wilson since they're related." "But you have your card, and he has his. You guys are not married yet, right?" Serene answered frankly, "Even though we're not married yet, we'll get married eventually." A trace of unhappiness flashed in Chainer's eyes. "Are you really planning to marry him?" Serene stared at him in disbelief and started to laugh. "Mr. Chainer, I don't think it's any of your business." "You
