chapter 6

Author: A Sleeve Full Of Cloud
A black Maybach drove past two rows of tall Chinese parasol trees and arrived at the Fudd’s mansion hidden among them.

Shrouded by the dark night, the Fudd’s mansion appeared more solemn and lofty than ever.

Heaton Fudd entered the house and saw John Fudd sitting on the sofa in the living room. He greeted politely, “Father.”

John Fudd’s hoary hand was clutching onto his crutch as he snorted coldly, “If you see me as your father, find yourself a wife quickly. Find Little Jelly Bean a mother! Don’t wait until I’m dead and you’re still not married!”

For the past three years, John’s biggest complaint about Heaton was none other than him failing to find girlfriend and getting married. Recently, the old man had been urging him to get married frequently.

Heaton dealt with the situation calmly. “I’m fine with the daughters from the Quinn, Zharko, Lewis, and Sullivan family. I don’t mind marrying anybody. However, you do know that Little Jelly Bean doesn’t like those ladies at all.”

Fueled by anger, the old man pounded the floor with his crutch. “Heaton Fudd, do you think I can’t see it? You’re using Little Jelly Bean as an excuse!”

Heaton put one hand in his pocket, He then nonchalantly said, “Father, if there’s nothing else, I’ll be upstairs to see Little Jelly Bean now.”

“Stand right there!”

The old man got up. Taking ahold of his crutch, he paced around the room. “If Little Jelly Bean doesn't like the ladies, look for her biological mother then! Do you think you can fool me? How could an unmarried man be a father to a three-year-old? People will know of Little Jelly Bean’s existence once she grows up. Do you want people to think that my granddaughter, also your daughter, is an illegitimate child?!”

Heaton stared at the stairs beneath him and his sharp eyes darkened.

“I will find you a suitable daughter-in-law this month.”

John Fudd caressed the handle of his crutch. “You better not disappoint me.”

Heaton proceeded upstairs and went into the baby room, which was the room nearest to his bedroom. A baby with fair skin and delicate features was sitting on the bed under the warm orange light. Her little hand was holding onto a drawing book. The coldness in his eyes faded away as they were replaced with a warm and doting expression. “ Jelly Bean, aren’t you asleep yet?”

Little Jelly Bean tossed her drawing book aside as soon as she heard her father’s voice. She flipped open her yellow blanket with Snoopy patterns and climbed out of the bed barefooted. Heaton strode over as he was worried that the little munchkin would fall down. He embraced the little munchkin who jumped into his arms. He held the baby in the crook of his arms.

Little Jelly Bean grinned, showing her white teeth. Eyes wide, the baby said cutely, “Daddy, Jelly Bean is waiting for you. I haven’t seen daddy in five days, don’t you miss me daddy?”

Heaton kissed his daughter’s fair cheeks, and said in a hoarse yet gentle tone, “Of course daddy missed you, but daddy has to work to earn money for the sake of raising you. Otherwise, how can I buy snacks and milk for you?”

The little munchkin pouted her fair and tender lips. Her eyebrows lightly frowned, she said, “Jelly Bean doesn't need rice, snacks or milk. Can daddy spend more time with me? All the kids in kindergarten are accompanied by their mom and dad, but grandpa is the one who sends me to school every day. I’m not happy.”

Carrying his daughter, Heaton sat on the bed and caressed the little munchkin’s head. “How can you grow if you don’t eat and don’t drink milk? Be a good girl, daddy will bring you to the zoo this weekend, alright?”

Little Jelly Bean’s bug black eyes narrowed into a lovely crescent moon. She hugged Heaton’s neck with her little arms excitedly, “Daddy, you cannot lie to me!”

The little munchkin’s tiny feet were bouncing about on Heaton’s lap. She stretched out her pinky finger and said, “Pinky swear!”

Heaton burst out laughing. He locked his finger with his daughter’s fleshy pinky. “Alright, daddy will be a dog if I go back on my words.”

The little munchkin’s pajamas were pushed up, revealing a red bruise on her arms. Heaton frowned and grabbed his daughter’s little hand. “Who bullied you, Little Jelly Bean?”

The smile on her face sank when her father talked about it. She pouted her pink lips and sat in Heaton’s embrace. She said unhappily, “Grandpa sends me to school every day. So, the kids in the kindergarten never saw my parents. Cherry said I am lying, she said I don’t have parents!”

Heaton’s brows loosened. “So, did you fight with Cherry?”

The little munchkin rubbed herself against her father’s chest and asked glumly, “Daddy, is mommy really on Mars? When can I go find mummy?”

Daddy told her that Mars was too hot and she was too young. She could go to Mars to find Mummy once she grows up, but how much should she grow to be able to go to Mars?

Heaton’s eyes darkened slightly. “Little Jelly Bean, do you really want a mummy?”

Little Jelly Bean nodded her head seriously and said in a tender voice, “Today, our teacher asked us to draw ourselves with our parents. I only drew daddy holding my hands and my teacher scolded me. Daddy, can you bring mummy back from Mars?”

Heaton stared at his daughter’s large dewy eyes. He kept silent for a few moments. Suddenly, the image of Verian’s eyes slipped through his mind. It was then that he realized the woman who accosted him looked somehow similar to Little Jelly Bean's eyes.

Little Jelly Bean hugged and shook her father’s neck vigorously as she saw her father stay silent. “Daddy, can you please pick mummy up?”

Heaton, who always loved his daughter, lifted his hand and looked at the watch on his wrist. He carried Little Jelly Bean and tucked her into bed. He said in a hoarse yet soft tone, “It’s late, go to bed now. Daddy will bring you to school tomorrow morning.”

Little Jelly Bean grabbed his large hands with her tiny hands, “Daddy, promise me you will bring mummy back from Mars!”

Heaton bent down and kissed his daughter’s forehead, “Goodnight, Jelly Bean.”

Little Jelly Bean smiled sweetly at him and blinked her eyes, “Goodnight, daddy.”

Heaton walked out for the baby room and called his assistant, Kush Xavier.

“Check who was the surrogate three years ago.”

At the other end, Kush was slightly shocked. Three years ago, security measures were carried out rather well in order to avoid problems. Why was BOSS taking the initiative to look for that woman now?

“Alright, BOSS. I will check immediately.”

Serene realized she was on a hospital bed when she woke up. She raised her hand and saw it was inserted with an IV. "Dr. Hayes, what happened?" "Well, do you know that you have low blood pressure? You forget everything when you're working. You could have been in big trouble if we didn't treat it in time. You're lucky you fainted in the hospital. What if it happened in the middle of nowhere? Who would get you to the hospital then?" Serene felt a little embarrassed after Dr. Hayes lectured her. She apologized, "I'm sorry for troubling you, Dr. Hayes." "Get some rest. Don't rush back to your department after the drip is done. Be good, and rest well." "Dr. Hayes, I'm fine… I will eat some chocolate." Dr. Hayes gave her a piercing look just after she finished her sentence. "Silly girl! You are okay, but the baby in your belly needs rest." Serene was stunned; she thought she had misheard it. "Dr. Hayes, what did you say?" What? A baby? Dr. Hayes looked at her in shock. "You

The next morning, Serene grabbed two steamed buns and headed straight to the hospital. She did not even accompany Wilson at breakfast. Wilson felt that the woman was a little upset after he told her that he did not want kids for the time being. After a busy morning at work, Serene had lunch in the canteen with her colleagues. She had lunch with a head nurse and a female doctor from their department. The doctor asked, "Nurse, why is Lydia absent today?" Lydia was a young nurse from their department. The chubby head nurse said, "Didn't you guys know that Lydia is pregnant? She's about three months pregnant, and she's doing her antenatal check-up in our hospital." Serene was slightly stunned. "I thought Lydia is not married yet?" "That's the problem. She got pregnant out of wedlock, and that's what made it more cumbersome. Her boyfriend has a weird family. He grew up in a poor family, and he's not local. He came from a place where the couple can only get married if she giv

They were done with their game and business talks. Jinn had a run of bad luck with the cards that night; he had burned through most of his cash. He and Xander were still single, and they could not stand it when Heaton and Wilson flaunted their love. So, the two of them decided to leave earlier. Little Jelly Bean saw a rainbow cake from another table as they exited the Supreme Restaurant. Since his daughter wanted to have some dessert, he suggested they go for an afternoon tea before they headed home. Heaton ordered a whole table of desserts that the girls loved. It was all on Jinn, anyway. Verian said teasingly, "Jinn really picked the wrong friends." Heaton raised his eyebrows. "He's the owner of this restaurant; just make yourself at home." Little Jelly Bean dug into her strawberry ice cream. Her lips were smudged when she said, "Daddy, since we earned so much money today, can you bring me to the amusement park and buy me fried chicken this weekend?" Heaton stared at his

Serene wrapped her arms around Wilson's neck. She appeared taller than the man as her legs encircled his waist. The woman furrowed her brows and glared at him. "Why didn't you approach me earlier if you already knew who I am?" If he had approached her earlier, she would have chosen a handsome and loyal guy like him instead of wasting three years of her youth with a guy like Chainer. Serene recalled her school days and thought about how she had been such a fool. Chainer never cared about her, but she always threw herself at him. Her last bit of fondness toward Chainer was all but gone after he tried to defame Wilson. Wilson carried her and put her on top of the kitchen counter. He supported himself with both hands pressed against the kitchen counter. "I've thought about approaching you earlier, but my identity and my job were too unusual. Furthermore, you were too young back then, too. I was afraid that I would scare you away." Serene asked, "Aren't you afraid that I would l

Wilson was prepared to cook dinner after they got back to the apartment. "What do you want to eat for dinner?" "Stir-fried shredded potatoes with green pepper and tomato egg drop soup." Wilson opened the refrigerator and took the ingredients that he needed. "Again? Aren't you sick of them?" Serene ran to the kitchen from the living room. She stared at Wilson and asked hesitantly, "Hey… I need to ask you something." "Go ahead." Serene took a deep breath and solemnly said, "Chainer told me that you stole his woman." Stole his woman? Wilson wanted to laugh when he heard that. He put the tomatoes on the table and looked at Serene. "Did he tell you how I stole his woman?" Serene nodded and said, "He said you knew about Gwen's crush on him. So, you drank him under the table and made him sleep with Gwen after that." Wilson remained calm. He stared at her with his dark eyes. "If what he said was true, would you blame and hate me for it?" Serene bit her lips and frowned. "

Serene turned around and was about to enter the office when Chainer grabbed her arm. Serene pulled back and turned around to look at him. "Is there anything else you need?" "Come on, Serene. Can't we talk about other stuff besides these usual platitudes?" Serene was amused. "Mr. Chainer, have you forgotten that we are no longer together? On top of that, we broke up a long time ago. I have a boyfriend now, and you have a fiancée; we shouldn't meet privately considering our current situation. If you want to send us your wedding invitation, you can get Gwen to give it to Wilson since they're related." "But you have your card, and he has his. You guys are not married yet, right?" Serene answered frankly, "Even though we're not married yet, we'll get married eventually." A trace of unhappiness flashed in Chainer's eyes. "Are you really planning to marry him?" Serene stared at him in disbelief and started to laugh. "Mr. Chainer, I don't think it's any of your business." "You
