chapter 7

Author: A Sleeve Full Of Cloud
It was 10 am the next morning. Verian saw a crowd of people in the hall on the first floor as soon as she stepped into the Fudd’s Group. They were all holding onto their resumes, waiting in line to attend the job interview. Strangely, about 99% of the interviewees were women. Moreover, they were young and pretty.

A slight frown knit Verian’s brows together. ‘Is it a special day today? Why are there so many job applicants?”

“Excuse me, are you guys here for the interview?”

Donning a pink mini skirt, a young and tender lady looked Verian up and down and said, “You’re also here for the interview? You dress like an old-fashioned nun, do you think President Fudd will fancy you?”

Verian was left speechless. “,,,”

Subconsciously, Verian took a look at her attire. She was wearing the most common outfit one would wear to an interview; a white blouse tucked in a hip skirt and a pair of simple 3centimeters heels. How could she look like a nun?

A person in charge came over to handle the interview session. A disdainful look tinged her eyes behind the black-framed glasses. “Keep quiet, President Fudd hates noisy women. Get in line and follow me up to the 66th floor for the interview in batches.”

Before Verian got to figure out the situation, a girl pushed her into the elevator hurriedly from behind, “Hey! Are you moving or not! Don’t block the way if you’re not moving!”

The person in charge glared at Verian and the girl, “Why are you pushing each other?! Do you think you will pass the interview by thrusting your way to the 66th floor?”

The atmosphere felt weird along the way. Verian was standing in between a bunch of well-dressed girls with thick makeup. It somehow felt like something was wrong.

Do they really need to get all gussied up like they were going for a blind date just to attend an interview for the art designer position?

Girls with all sorts of makeup looks filled the elevator. They were holding onto their cushion powder, fixing their still well-fixed makeup.

The elevator door opened with a dinging bell as it arrived on the 66th floor.

Verian was pushed forward by the crowd, following them into the interview room.

Verian could see the interview team through a transparent glass. There were three examiners with two secretaries standing beside. The atmosphere made people shudder.

‘The Fudd’s Group is so strict in choosing a designer for the art and creative department? In that case, wouldn’t those who apply for positions like managers or directors are required to go through different levels of interviews, just like how one had to clear different levels in games?’

A few girls behind her were so nervous that their palms were covered in beads of sweat. They discussed in a low voice, “I heard that President Fudd graduated from an Ivy League college, and I’m just an ordinary undergraduate. Will President Fudd disapprove of me?”

“Qualifications are nothing. Men only fancy a woman’s looks and body.”

‘It seems like they’re not here to apply for the designer position. Instead, they’re here to apply for President Fudd’s girlfriend?’

The office door was suddenly pushed open. A girl dressed in a black Givenchy mini skirt walked out from the room. It seems like she got good results from the interview. Her face lit up as she stood in front of the door. She crossed her arms while looking arrogantly at the other girls who were waiting for their turn to be interviewed, “Do you girls really think that looks and body is enough? President Fudd had seen enough beautiful girls. Girls like you are just a complement to him. President Fudd fancy girls with good family background, high qualifications, and girls who are smart like me. Let me give you some advice, you better know yourselves, girls!”

As soon as she finished her sentence, a secretary came out of the office and said in a formal tone, “Next, please.”

Verian was stunned. It was her turn. She took a deep breath. Carrying her resume, she walked into the office calmly in her heels.

Among the three examiners, the good looking man in the middle who was wearing gold-rimmed glasses glanced through her resume, and spoke first, “Verian Mont? Please introduce yourself. Tell us your measurements, weight, height, health status, and family background.”

Verian frowned and anger washed across her elegant face, “Is Fudd’s Group secretly using such dirty tactics to hire female employees? I thought President Fudd was a serious, fair and honest businessman. It seems like President Fudd was faking everything. I’m sorry, I’m not interviewing anymore.”

The examiners looked at each other. They stared at Verian’s furious face and jokingly said, “Miss Mont, you’re here to apply as President Fudd’s wife, of course, President Fudd will have the right to find out your basic conditions. Otherwise, our President Fudd could have married anyone as long as she’s a woman?”

‘What? Application for ‘President Fudd’s wife’?’

“I think I might have walked into the wrong…”

Before he managed to finish her explanation, the office door was pushed open and the interview was interrupted. The person who came in was President Fudd’s assistant, Kush Xavier.

Kush walked to the examiner in the middle, leaned over and whispered in a soft voice, “Director Lucas, BOSS wants to interview Verian Mont personally.”

Zander Lucas took off his gold-rimmed glasses. With a slight cunning gaze, he laughed, “I thought he didn’t like women, I did not expect that she was his cup of tea.”

Zander eyed Verian with a profound look as a faint smile appeared on his lips.

Kush walked towards Verian and said in a respectful and polite tone, “Miss Mont, please follow me.”

Sitting on a black executive chair, Heaton stared at the paused screen on his laptop with an indifferent face. It was the recording of Verian’s interview next door.

The man picked up the information and pictures that were sent by Kush this morning. His gaze fell straight on a blurry picture of a woman on the obstetric table.

If the surrogate three years ago was really Verian Mont…

The office door opened with a click.

Kush came in with Verian, “BOSS, Miss Mont is here.”

“You may leave first.”

“Yes.”

Confused, Verian was brought into the office. As soon as Kush left, she frowned and asked, “President Fudd, I’m here to apply for the job as an illustrator, I don’t understand what you mean right now.”

Heaton lifted his hand and closed his laptop. He looked at her in a mocking gaze, “You were scolding me for using dirty tricks in the next door just now. So, what’s the matter with you seducing me at the party last night? It doesn’t seem like I am the one who was faking things.”

Her cheeks flushed red out of embarrassment. She nibbled her lips and said, “I only wanted President Fudd to show me some mercy and cancel the demolition project in Navy Road. Pardon me for my lack of manners if there is any misunderstanding, President Fudd.”

Heaton stood up and walked over to the huge fish tank in his office. He fed the fishes in a leisure manner, “It is impossible to cancel the demolition project, but there is still room for negotiation regarding the Mont Villa.”

A flash of joy sparked in Verian’s heart. She quickly asked, “President Fudd, does that mean that you will keep the Mont Villa?”

The man tossed the fish food aside. With one hand in his pocket, he walked towards Verian. She subconsciously stepped back as the man’s fresh and pleasant breath neared her. At the same time, a big hand held firmly onto her slender waist.

Serene realized she was on a hospital bed when she woke up. She raised her hand and saw it was inserted with an IV. "Dr. Hayes, what happened?" "Well, do you know that you have low blood pressure? You forget everything when you're working. You could have been in big trouble if we didn't treat it in time. You're lucky you fainted in the hospital. What if it happened in the middle of nowhere? Who would get you to the hospital then?" Serene felt a little embarrassed after Dr. Hayes lectured her. She apologized, "I'm sorry for troubling you, Dr. Hayes." "Get some rest. Don't rush back to your department after the drip is done. Be good, and rest well." "Dr. Hayes, I'm fine… I will eat some chocolate." Dr. Hayes gave her a piercing look just after she finished her sentence. "Silly girl! You are okay, but the baby in your belly needs rest." Serene was stunned; she thought she had misheard it. "Dr. Hayes, what did you say?" What? A baby? Dr. Hayes looked at her in shock. "You

The next morning, Serene grabbed two steamed buns and headed straight to the hospital. She did not even accompany Wilson at breakfast. Wilson felt that the woman was a little upset after he told her that he did not want kids for the time being. After a busy morning at work, Serene had lunch in the canteen with her colleagues. She had lunch with a head nurse and a female doctor from their department. The doctor asked, "Nurse, why is Lydia absent today?" Lydia was a young nurse from their department. The chubby head nurse said, "Didn't you guys know that Lydia is pregnant? She's about three months pregnant, and she's doing her antenatal check-up in our hospital." Serene was slightly stunned. "I thought Lydia is not married yet?" "That's the problem. She got pregnant out of wedlock, and that's what made it more cumbersome. Her boyfriend has a weird family. He grew up in a poor family, and he's not local. He came from a place where the couple can only get married if she giv

They were done with their game and business talks. Jinn had a run of bad luck with the cards that night; he had burned through most of his cash. He and Xander were still single, and they could not stand it when Heaton and Wilson flaunted their love. So, the two of them decided to leave earlier. Little Jelly Bean saw a rainbow cake from another table as they exited the Supreme Restaurant. Since his daughter wanted to have some dessert, he suggested they go for an afternoon tea before they headed home. Heaton ordered a whole table of desserts that the girls loved. It was all on Jinn, anyway. Verian said teasingly, "Jinn really picked the wrong friends." Heaton raised his eyebrows. "He's the owner of this restaurant; just make yourself at home." Little Jelly Bean dug into her strawberry ice cream. Her lips were smudged when she said, "Daddy, since we earned so much money today, can you bring me to the amusement park and buy me fried chicken this weekend?" Heaton stared at his

Serene wrapped her arms around Wilson's neck. She appeared taller than the man as her legs encircled his waist. The woman furrowed her brows and glared at him. "Why didn't you approach me earlier if you already knew who I am?" If he had approached her earlier, she would have chosen a handsome and loyal guy like him instead of wasting three years of her youth with a guy like Chainer. Serene recalled her school days and thought about how she had been such a fool. Chainer never cared about her, but she always threw herself at him. Her last bit of fondness toward Chainer was all but gone after he tried to defame Wilson. Wilson carried her and put her on top of the kitchen counter. He supported himself with both hands pressed against the kitchen counter. "I've thought about approaching you earlier, but my identity and my job were too unusual. Furthermore, you were too young back then, too. I was afraid that I would scare you away." Serene asked, "Aren't you afraid that I would l

Wilson was prepared to cook dinner after they got back to the apartment. "What do you want to eat for dinner?" "Stir-fried shredded potatoes with green pepper and tomato egg drop soup." Wilson opened the refrigerator and took the ingredients that he needed. "Again? Aren't you sick of them?" Serene ran to the kitchen from the living room. She stared at Wilson and asked hesitantly, "Hey… I need to ask you something." "Go ahead." Serene took a deep breath and solemnly said, "Chainer told me that you stole his woman." Stole his woman? Wilson wanted to laugh when he heard that. He put the tomatoes on the table and looked at Serene. "Did he tell you how I stole his woman?" Serene nodded and said, "He said you knew about Gwen's crush on him. So, you drank him under the table and made him sleep with Gwen after that." Wilson remained calm. He stared at her with his dark eyes. "If what he said was true, would you blame and hate me for it?" Serene bit her lips and frowned. "

Serene turned around and was about to enter the office when Chainer grabbed her arm. Serene pulled back and turned around to look at him. "Is there anything else you need?" "Come on, Serene. Can't we talk about other stuff besides these usual platitudes?" Serene was amused. "Mr. Chainer, have you forgotten that we are no longer together? On top of that, we broke up a long time ago. I have a boyfriend now, and you have a fiancée; we shouldn't meet privately considering our current situation. If you want to send us your wedding invitation, you can get Gwen to give it to Wilson since they're related." "But you have your card, and he has his. You guys are not married yet, right?" Serene answered frankly, "Even though we're not married yet, we'll get married eventually." A trace of unhappiness flashed in Chainer's eyes. "Are you really planning to marry him?" Serene stared at him in disbelief and started to laugh. "Mr. Chainer, I don't think it's any of your business." "You
