chapter 8

Author: A Sleeve Full Of Cloud
“President Fudd, please watch yourself!”

Heaton stared at her flushed face tinged with anger with an indifferent gaze. He lowered his head, bringing his head next to her ear. Then, he started to speak unhurriedly, “Miss Mont said that I’m a businessman. Businessmen seek nothing but profits; we don’t trade at a loss. What do you have that is worth enough to be exchanged with the villa?”

His deep voice was cold and thin. His fathomless dark eyes stared straight at her side face. He spoke the words so slowly, but every one of them hit the most vulnerable part in her heart.

She did not have any money. The Mont Family was shattered three years ago.

Talking about her body, Heaton did not even spare her a glance yesterday. He even embarrassed her in public. She did not understand what the man wanted from her.

Heaton took a look at her delicate and tender face. “You seemed very experienced when you were seducing me last night?”

He lowered his body and his thin lips got nearer to her. His magnetic baritone voice tinged with ridicule. “Or, Miss Mont is playing hard to get?”

Emotionlessly, Heaton lifted his wrist, plucked a strand of her loosely hung hair and grasped it firmly in his palms.

The next second, the man suddenly pushed her towards the fish tank. Her back bumped into the solid glass and her face wrinkled with pain. She did not even have the chance to resist him.

“Miss Mont, I’m quite interested in you.”

His frivolous tone infuriated Verian. She lifted her head and glared at the handsome yet irritating face. Nervousness struck her hard. Just when his thin lips were about to touch hers, she trembled and pushed him away. She turned around and ran out of the office.

Heaton stared at the slender figure who was fleeing away. His thin lips pulled into a faint smile. He squinted his eyes slightly and took a glance at the strand of black hair on his palms.

Verian stumbled out of the office. Her emotions were jumbled up. Suddenly, she ran into a woman.

Crash.

The files in the woman’s hands scattered on the floor. She immediately bent down to help pick up the files. “I’m sorry.”

Verian handed the woman the files. A trace of shock flashed across Nancy Xander’s eyes as her eyes met Verian’s.

“I’m sorry for bumping into you.”

Nancy smiled politely and took the files. “It’s ok.”

Verian left. Nancy frowned after she entered the elevator.

‘The woman’s eyes looked so much alike to Little Jelly Bean’s.’

She looked at the noisy interview room and her uneasiness grew. Was Heaton looking for Little Jelly Bean’s biological mother?

Holding onto the files, she walked towards the president’s office in her high heels. Just when she was about to knock on the door, she heard people talking inside the room.

“This is Verian Mont and Little Jelly Bean’s hair. Send it for DNA testing immediately.”

Indeed, Heaton was looking for Little Jelly Bean’s biological mother.

Her knuckles turned white as she clutched onto the files.

The office door was opened and Kush walked out from the office. He saw Nancy who was standing in front of the office. Although he was slightly stunned, he still greeted her, “Director Xander, are you looking for BOSS?”

“Oh, the finalize poster for ‘Only in the Dreams Could I Feel Freedom’ is out. I’m here to show him the poster.”

Kush lightly nodded his head and said, “BOSS is inside the office. Director Xander, I’ll have to make a move first as I have some other stuff to handle.”

Nancy looked at the white envelope in Kush’s hand. Curiosity filled her eyes. “Assistant Kush, what is this?”

She raised her hand and tried to take the envelope, but Kush backed away alertly. He said in a faint smile, “It’s nothing much. I’ll excuse myself first, Director Xander.”

‘The envelope should be holding hair samples both from the woman and Little Jelly Bean...”

Nancy went into the office. “This is the final draft. Take a look, if there’s no problem, sign it.”

Heaton took over the document, glanced through it, picked up his black pen and signed his name with a flourish.

She took a deep breath. Unable to hold back herself, she asked, “I saw Zander and a few people busy interviewing girls since this morning to find you a wife. Are you sure you want to hire a wife? Heaton, marriage is not a joke…”

Before she could even finish her sentence, Heaton lifted his head and said, “Sister in law, it’s better for you to call me President Fudd in the company.”

Nancy was stupefied. The man handed her the signed document. She pursed her red lips and stared at Heaton for a few moments. She kept silent for a few seconds before collecting the document.

She turned to look at Heaton when she was near the door. “Heaton, do you have to draw such a clear line between us? Henry has been gone for five years…”

“In work, you’re my subordinate; in private, you will always be my sister in law.”

His cold and emotionless voice extinguished the last hope in her heart.

Verian bought a bottle of ice water after walking out from Fudd’s Group. Her disordered heart gradually calmed down after she gulped down the water.

Damn it, she could have secured her father’s villa if she went all out just now.

She clenched her fist and knocked her head. Her phone rang in the midst of distress. Guin Yellen appeared on her caller ID.

“Hello, Guinnie.”

“Rainie, how was your interview? Did you convince the interviewers with your talent?”

Verian was hailing a taxi as she said dejectedly, “Don’t even mention it. It’s unlikely I get to work with the Fudd’s Group. I applied for a part-time job on the Internet yesterday and I’m about to go check it out right now.”

“Alright then, good luck Rainie. The Fudd’s Group will hire you! I believe in your ability!”

Verian got on the taxi after hanging up, “Sir, please go to the Kindergarten of Foreign Language.”

Verian entered the office when she arrived at the Kindergarten of Foreign Language.

“Hello, I am here for the interview. I contacted you all through the phone yesterday.”

“Oh, you’re here to apply for the art teacher job, right?”

“Yes.”

After looking at her resume, the principal smiled and said, “Miss Mont, your educational background and the university that you graduated from are both excellent. However, it seems like you are not familiar with handling children? Recently, we have a new transfer student in one of our classes and she always had conflicts with the other students. Do you think you can try to solve this problem?”

Verian immediately understood that it was a test from the principal. She smiled and said, “No problem.”

The principal led Verian to a playground where the children were having their classes. She pointed at a girl sitting under a tree not far away and said, “That girl had just transferred to our class from the government kindergarten. Her name is Little Jelly Bean. She doesn’t have a good relationship with her classmates. She even fought with other kids in her class yesterday. She comes from a wealthy family, so the parents dared not complain although she bullied the other kids. However, it is our responsibility as an educator to guide her in the right direction.”

Verian walked towards Little Jelly Bean and stopped in front of her. Little Jelly Bean pouted her pink lips and stared at her with big dewy eyes. “Who are you?”

“Who are you then? Why are you sitting here alone and not joining your friends?”

Little Jelly Bean pursed her tiny lips. “I don’t want to tell you.”

Serene realized she was on a hospital bed when she woke up. She raised her hand and saw it was inserted with an IV. "Dr. Hayes, what happened?" "Well, do you know that you have low blood pressure? You forget everything when you're working. You could have been in big trouble if we didn't treat it in time. You're lucky you fainted in the hospital. What if it happened in the middle of nowhere? Who would get you to the hospital then?" Serene felt a little embarrassed after Dr. Hayes lectured her. She apologized, "I'm sorry for troubling you, Dr. Hayes." "Get some rest. Don't rush back to your department after the drip is done. Be good, and rest well." "Dr. Hayes, I'm fine… I will eat some chocolate." Dr. Hayes gave her a piercing look just after she finished her sentence. "Silly girl! You are okay, but the baby in your belly needs rest." Serene was stunned; she thought she had misheard it. "Dr. Hayes, what did you say?" What? A baby? Dr. Hayes looked at her in shock. "You

The next morning, Serene grabbed two steamed buns and headed straight to the hospital. She did not even accompany Wilson at breakfast. Wilson felt that the woman was a little upset after he told her that he did not want kids for the time being. After a busy morning at work, Serene had lunch in the canteen with her colleagues. She had lunch with a head nurse and a female doctor from their department. The doctor asked, "Nurse, why is Lydia absent today?" Lydia was a young nurse from their department. The chubby head nurse said, "Didn't you guys know that Lydia is pregnant? She's about three months pregnant, and she's doing her antenatal check-up in our hospital." Serene was slightly stunned. "I thought Lydia is not married yet?" "That's the problem. She got pregnant out of wedlock, and that's what made it more cumbersome. Her boyfriend has a weird family. He grew up in a poor family, and he's not local. He came from a place where the couple can only get married if she giv

They were done with their game and business talks. Jinn had a run of bad luck with the cards that night; he had burned through most of his cash. He and Xander were still single, and they could not stand it when Heaton and Wilson flaunted their love. So, the two of them decided to leave earlier. Little Jelly Bean saw a rainbow cake from another table as they exited the Supreme Restaurant. Since his daughter wanted to have some dessert, he suggested they go for an afternoon tea before they headed home. Heaton ordered a whole table of desserts that the girls loved. It was all on Jinn, anyway. Verian said teasingly, "Jinn really picked the wrong friends." Heaton raised his eyebrows. "He's the owner of this restaurant; just make yourself at home." Little Jelly Bean dug into her strawberry ice cream. Her lips were smudged when she said, "Daddy, since we earned so much money today, can you bring me to the amusement park and buy me fried chicken this weekend?" Heaton stared at his

Serene wrapped her arms around Wilson's neck. She appeared taller than the man as her legs encircled his waist. The woman furrowed her brows and glared at him. "Why didn't you approach me earlier if you already knew who I am?" If he had approached her earlier, she would have chosen a handsome and loyal guy like him instead of wasting three years of her youth with a guy like Chainer. Serene recalled her school days and thought about how she had been such a fool. Chainer never cared about her, but she always threw herself at him. Her last bit of fondness toward Chainer was all but gone after he tried to defame Wilson. Wilson carried her and put her on top of the kitchen counter. He supported himself with both hands pressed against the kitchen counter. "I've thought about approaching you earlier, but my identity and my job were too unusual. Furthermore, you were too young back then, too. I was afraid that I would scare you away." Serene asked, "Aren't you afraid that I would l

Wilson was prepared to cook dinner after they got back to the apartment. "What do you want to eat for dinner?" "Stir-fried shredded potatoes with green pepper and tomato egg drop soup." Wilson opened the refrigerator and took the ingredients that he needed. "Again? Aren't you sick of them?" Serene ran to the kitchen from the living room. She stared at Wilson and asked hesitantly, "Hey… I need to ask you something." "Go ahead." Serene took a deep breath and solemnly said, "Chainer told me that you stole his woman." Stole his woman? Wilson wanted to laugh when he heard that. He put the tomatoes on the table and looked at Serene. "Did he tell you how I stole his woman?" Serene nodded and said, "He said you knew about Gwen's crush on him. So, you drank him under the table and made him sleep with Gwen after that." Wilson remained calm. He stared at her with his dark eyes. "If what he said was true, would you blame and hate me for it?" Serene bit her lips and frowned. "

Serene turned around and was about to enter the office when Chainer grabbed her arm. Serene pulled back and turned around to look at him. "Is there anything else you need?" "Come on, Serene. Can't we talk about other stuff besides these usual platitudes?" Serene was amused. "Mr. Chainer, have you forgotten that we are no longer together? On top of that, we broke up a long time ago. I have a boyfriend now, and you have a fiancée; we shouldn't meet privately considering our current situation. If you want to send us your wedding invitation, you can get Gwen to give it to Wilson since they're related." "But you have your card, and he has his. You guys are not married yet, right?" Serene answered frankly, "Even though we're not married yet, we'll get married eventually." A trace of unhappiness flashed in Chainer's eyes. "Are you really planning to marry him?" Serene stared at him in disbelief and started to laugh. "Mr. Chainer, I don't think it's any of your business." "You
