chapter 9

Auteur: A Sleeve Full Of Cloud
The Maybach disappeared in a cloud of dust. Heaton’s cold gaze was fixated on the diminishing figure in the rear-view mirror.

The little munchkin sitting next to him climbed onto his lap mischievously. Her tender and fair hands held her father. “Daddy, why can’t Monty join us for dinner?”

Heaton lowered his eyes. He caressed his daughter’s head with his big hands and patiently asked, “Jelly Bean, you really like Monty that much?”

“Yes!” The little munchkin blinked her dewy eyes and nodded her head furiously.

“You like her because she gave you candy?”

Even though the other ladies from the wealthy families that he had gone on a blind dates with brought Little Jelly Bean her favorite snacks, she did not seem to like them as much. She even cried because she did not want her father to get along with them.

How did Verian captivate Jelly Bean’s heart?

Little Jelly Bean shook her head. She made two circles with her fingers and placed them on her eyes. She stared at her father with sparkling eyes and chuckled, “It is because Monty’s eyes are as big as mine!”

Heaton was surprised. Did the little munchkin realize that she and the woman looked alike?

Heaton hugged the little munchkin on his lap as he pursed his lips tightly. His eyes were dark.

After playing for the whole day, Little Jelly Bean almost immediately fell asleep in her father’s embrace. Heaton lowered his voice and asked Kush, who was driving the car, “When will the DNA report be ready?”

“It will be out latest by the day after tomorrow in the afternoon. Boss, if Miss Mont is really Little Jelly Bean’s biological mother…”

Heaton’s face darkened. “Find out why Verian decided to serve as a surrogate three years ago.”

“Yes.”

If the woman approached him and Little Jelly Bean with ulterior motives, he would not mind burying the truth and her identity even if she was Little Jelly Bean’s biological mother.

Verian went to Navy Road on her way back after she got off work. A big truck was parked in front of the Mont Family’s villa when she arrived. It looked like it was used to move house.

“Right here! Be careful! I bought this vase for more than a million bucks! Can you afford to pay it if you break it?”

Verian heard a familiar harsh middle-aged woman’s voice. She looked up and saw Queena Sheen frowning and impatiently instructing the staff from the removals.

A mover came out from behind whilst carrying a portrait. Queena’s eyes narrowed as she said disdainfully, “Get rid of this portrait. It’s heavy and takes up a lot of space. Moreover, it brings us bad luck!”

Right when the mover was about to throw out the picture, Verian glanced over and realized it was her father’s portrait!

“Hold on!”

Queena turned toward the direction of the sound and she saw the long-lost face. Her eyes trembled.

“Ve, Verian Mont…? I thought you left North City?”

Verian pulled a faint cold smile. She said mockingly, “Mrs. Sheen, long time no see.”

“Why are you back to North City?”

Verian snatched the portrait from the mover’s hands and embraced it tightly. “This is my house, why can’t I come back?”

“Hah!” Queena sneered, “I might as well tell you now that the villa is going to be demolished soon. You can’t stop it! Moreover, you don’t have the rights to stop it because this villa is under my name!”

Verian held the portrait firmly until her knuckles turned white. With determination in her eyes she said, “I am not going to just sit around and watch the villa being demolished!”

Queen crossed her arms and said harshly, “Do you know how much it costs to demolish this villa? Forty million! Verian Mont, don’t even dream of claiming this villa! However… it might only be possible if you sell yourself!”

The fire in her heart was completely ignited. Verian was reminded of the one million bucks that they stole three years ago. She clenched her fist and raised her other hand to slap Queena across the face. As her palm was about to land on her face, her wrist was grabbed mid-air. A force hurled her hand aside.

“Auntie, are you okay?”

Jensen rushed out from the villa, expressing concern to his ‘mother-in-law’. Verian cast an emotionless glare at him. Carrying the portrait, she strode out of the villa.

Jensen caught up to her before she walked out of the Navy Road area. He grabbed her wrist and asked, “Why did you come back?”

She scoffed. “Why can’t I come back?! Jensen! Stop disgusting me!”

Forcefully, she tugged her wrist out from his hands. Her bloodshot eyes glared at him in anger, just like an animal that was provoked.

“I disgust you? Verian Mont! Where did you get the one million bucks three years ago?!”

“Who are you to ask me that question?! Hah… in that case, you knew that Queena Sheen and Wanelle Sheen stole the money? Were you involved?”

Guilty, Jensen was quiet. However, he quickly grabbed her by the wrists again. “How did you make so much money in less than a year? Did you work as a bargirl?”

She let out a cold chuckle. “I must have been blind to be your girlfriend last time! You truly disgust me! You are so disgusting that I feel like vomiting!”

She broke away from his grip. Carrying the portrait, she turned around and walked away without even looking back.

However, her eyes turned red as soon as she turned around…

Grievances and hatred swept through her like a frightening storm.

She had to take revenge! She wanted the Sheen mother and daughter duo, as well as Jensen to pay for whatever they did for her!

She took a deep breath and dialed Guin’s number. She remembered that Guin saved a lot of influential contacts in her phones.

“Guinie, do you have Heaton Fudd’s contact?”

It was in the study room in Fudd's villa.

Heaton was standing next to the window when he received a phone call.

“Boss, Verian Mont served as a surrogate three years ago because her father, Grayson Mont, went bankrupt and left behind a pile of debt. She served as a surrogate to pay back her father’s debt. However, it seemed like the one million bucks she received were taken away by her stepmother and stepsister. Her father was then forced to commit suicide by the creditor and the Mont Family’s Villa became her stepmother’s property. She left for Paris to further her studies three years ago after giving birth. It seems like Verian has no idea that Little Jelly Bean is her daughter.”

As soon as Kush finished his sentence, another phone call came in when Heaton was still on the call.

He hung up Kush’s call and picked up the call from an unknown number. A familiar young female’s voice was heard from the other side of the call. With a slightly hoarse voice, she sounded like she just cried.

“Hello, President Fudd. I am Verian Mont. You said that you were interested in my body, does it still count?”

Heaton’s brows frowned. A sly look flashed across his eyes as he said, “I was just joking, but it seems like Miss Mont took it seriously?”

Verian, who was on the other side of the call swallowed her saliva. Struggling, she spoke, “President Fudd, I am willing to do anything as long as you can keep the Mont Family’s villa.”

Heaton remained silent for a long time. It took so long that she felt like she was drowning in an icy cold sea, almost suffocating to death. Only then, an indifferent male voice sounded from the other side of the phone.

“I am not interested in keeping a mistress.”

Verian mustered up all her courage, shut her eyes, and slowly said, “I don’t want to be your mistress. President Fudd, I know you’re lacking a Mrs. Fudd. On the other hand, I lack a powerful patron.”

Serene realized she was on a hospital bed when she woke up. She raised her hand and saw it was inserted with an IV. "Dr. Hayes, what happened?" "Well, do you know that you have low blood pressure? You forget everything when you're working. You could have been in big trouble if we didn't treat it in time. You're lucky you fainted in the hospital. What if it happened in the middle of nowhere? Who would get you to the hospital then?" Serene felt a little embarrassed after Dr. Hayes lectured her. She apologized, "I'm sorry for troubling you, Dr. Hayes." "Get some rest. Don't rush back to your department after the drip is done. Be good, and rest well." "Dr. Hayes, I'm fine… I will eat some chocolate." Dr. Hayes gave her a piercing look just after she finished her sentence. "Silly girl! You are okay, but the baby in your belly needs rest." Serene was stunned; she thought she had misheard it. "Dr. Hayes, what did you say?" What? A baby? Dr. Hayes looked at her in shock. "You

The next morning, Serene grabbed two steamed buns and headed straight to the hospital. She did not even accompany Wilson at breakfast. Wilson felt that the woman was a little upset after he told her that he did not want kids for the time being. After a busy morning at work, Serene had lunch in the canteen with her colleagues. She had lunch with a head nurse and a female doctor from their department. The doctor asked, "Nurse, why is Lydia absent today?" Lydia was a young nurse from their department. The chubby head nurse said, "Didn't you guys know that Lydia is pregnant? She's about three months pregnant, and she's doing her antenatal check-up in our hospital." Serene was slightly stunned. "I thought Lydia is not married yet?" "That's the problem. She got pregnant out of wedlock, and that's what made it more cumbersome. Her boyfriend has a weird family. He grew up in a poor family, and he's not local. He came from a place where the couple can only get married if she giv

They were done with their game and business talks. Jinn had a run of bad luck with the cards that night; he had burned through most of his cash. He and Xander were still single, and they could not stand it when Heaton and Wilson flaunted their love. So, the two of them decided to leave earlier. Little Jelly Bean saw a rainbow cake from another table as they exited the Supreme Restaurant. Since his daughter wanted to have some dessert, he suggested they go for an afternoon tea before they headed home. Heaton ordered a whole table of desserts that the girls loved. It was all on Jinn, anyway. Verian said teasingly, "Jinn really picked the wrong friends." Heaton raised his eyebrows. "He's the owner of this restaurant; just make yourself at home." Little Jelly Bean dug into her strawberry ice cream. Her lips were smudged when she said, "Daddy, since we earned so much money today, can you bring me to the amusement park and buy me fried chicken this weekend?" Heaton stared at his

Serene wrapped her arms around Wilson's neck. She appeared taller than the man as her legs encircled his waist. The woman furrowed her brows and glared at him. "Why didn't you approach me earlier if you already knew who I am?" If he had approached her earlier, she would have chosen a handsome and loyal guy like him instead of wasting three years of her youth with a guy like Chainer. Serene recalled her school days and thought about how she had been such a fool. Chainer never cared about her, but she always threw herself at him. Her last bit of fondness toward Chainer was all but gone after he tried to defame Wilson. Wilson carried her and put her on top of the kitchen counter. He supported himself with both hands pressed against the kitchen counter. "I've thought about approaching you earlier, but my identity and my job were too unusual. Furthermore, you were too young back then, too. I was afraid that I would scare you away." Serene asked, "Aren't you afraid that I would l

Wilson was prepared to cook dinner after they got back to the apartment. "What do you want to eat for dinner?" "Stir-fried shredded potatoes with green pepper and tomato egg drop soup." Wilson opened the refrigerator and took the ingredients that he needed. "Again? Aren't you sick of them?" Serene ran to the kitchen from the living room. She stared at Wilson and asked hesitantly, "Hey… I need to ask you something." "Go ahead." Serene took a deep breath and solemnly said, "Chainer told me that you stole his woman." Stole his woman? Wilson wanted to laugh when he heard that. He put the tomatoes on the table and looked at Serene. "Did he tell you how I stole his woman?" Serene nodded and said, "He said you knew about Gwen's crush on him. So, you drank him under the table and made him sleep with Gwen after that." Wilson remained calm. He stared at her with his dark eyes. "If what he said was true, would you blame and hate me for it?" Serene bit her lips and frowned. "

Serene turned around and was about to enter the office when Chainer grabbed her arm. Serene pulled back and turned around to look at him. "Is there anything else you need?" "Come on, Serene. Can't we talk about other stuff besides these usual platitudes?" Serene was amused. "Mr. Chainer, have you forgotten that we are no longer together? On top of that, we broke up a long time ago. I have a boyfriend now, and you have a fiancée; we shouldn't meet privately considering our current situation. If you want to send us your wedding invitation, you can get Gwen to give it to Wilson since they're related." "But you have your card, and he has his. You guys are not married yet, right?" Serene answered frankly, "Even though we're not married yet, we'll get married eventually." A trace of unhappiness flashed in Chainer's eyes. "Are you really planning to marry him?" Serene stared at him in disbelief and started to laugh. "Mr. Chainer, I don't think it's any of your business." "You
