chapter 4

Author: A Short Novel
Xiaolan hugged the child tightly and warily took a few steps back.

Murong Ling advanced towards her with a frosty expression. Her words were falling on deaf ears.

At this moment, taking the child's life was a secondary issue. His only concern was the fact that the child had been taken from his side.

Without that child as a hostage, Xiaobei would immediately take the chance to escape from him.

"Give the child to me." He said menacingly as he stalked forward.

"Don't even think about it." Xiaolan ran to the hospital gate with the child in her arms.

However, she had barely gone further than a few meters before she was completely surrounded.

She could only watch the child being taken away by him as she struggled impotently.

She was so disgusted that she wanted to retch when she saw Miao Wanwan's hypocritical face.

"Murong Ling, only people like you would favor such hypocrites. She is savage and merciless, even going so far as setting up her own sister. In front of you, her acts are nothing but a facade. Do you really think that your life was saved by her? Hah, I feel sad for your delusional way of thinking."

She had no qualms at all. Xiaobei had sacrificed everything for him, even risking herself, but it had all been for nought.

In her opinion, this kind of person was not worth her respect, let alone her love.

Hearing her words, Miao Wanwan's face darkened and she hurriedly justified herself to Murong Ling.

Observing that her words had not bothered him, she heaved a sigh of relief.

"You will regret this one day."

After voicing her opinion, Xiaolan broke away from the men in black and attempted to leave.

"Stop, I want to hear what I'm going to regret." Murong Ling spun round and casually handed the child to Miao Wanwan.

Miao Wanwan took the child and was about to dissuade him from listening before his forbidding expression made Miao Wanwan bite back her words.

She could only take it in her stride as he caught up to the woman in front.

Xiaolan halted and raised her head as she said, "You'll regret loving the wrong person. Have you ever even figured out how your beloved woman supposedly saved you? As far as I know, she has no medical background. How could she have used wild herbs to save your life? Murong Ling, many things are not as they initially appear to be."

She explained to that extent and then stopped. What was the use in carrying on? He would not believe her even if she said more anyway.

"You mean to say that Miao Xiaobei was the one who saved me?" Murong Ling said, cutting to the core of the matter.

At this point, he did waver for a moment.

"You can decide for yourself. One more thing. That is, Miao Wanwan's child may not be..."

Before she could finish her words, she glimpsed Miao Wanwan throwing the child from her grasp.

Her pupils contracted. Pushing Murong Ling away, she frantically lunged to catch the child.

Suddenly, a car sped towards them and ploughed straight into her. Xiaolan was sent flying, somersaulting in the air.

Her protective grip on the child never loosened even as she hit the ground.

The great thud of her body hitting the tarmac scared the life out of everyone.

"Murong Ling, guess you can't wait to send me to prison, huh? I never knew you to be so cruel. I love you so much, and you know that I have cancer, yet you're still sending me to that gloomy hellhole. I'm devastated."Miao Wanwan looked up at the sky as she spoke, a single tear falling from the corner of her eye.Miao Xiaobei paid absolutely no attention to her words. Her entire being was focused on the sleeping child wrapped in her arms. She was so afraid that Miao Wanwan would fall off the cliff accidentally if she was startled or shifted her weight a little."Miao Xiaobei, I hate you so much, do you know that? Why you are better than me at everything? Even your luck is better! Why don't I have anything? My entire life, I've had to struggle just for a few scraps of happiness, but you snatched everything away. How can I not hate you?" she wailed.Murong Ling signaled for Miao Xiaobei to keep talking to her, then he silently edged towards the space behind her."Do you know how muc

Miao Xiaobei agreed and followed Li Xin into the cafe, pulling along her son by his little hand. However, as soon as Miao Xiaobei sat down, Li Xin grabbed her bag and legged it out of the door.Naturally, without sparing a moment to think, she gave chase.By the time she had gotten back her bag and returned to the shop, she found to her horror that her precious son was gone. She searched the entire milk tea shop but he seemed to have just vanished into thin air.She had even searched the surrounding area, but to no avail. She returned to the milk tea shop and requested the CCTV footage. Unfortunately, their seats just so happened to be in a blind spot and it had not been caught on the footage.Luckily, there was a CCTV camera at the entrance of the store. When she saw that it was Miao Wanwan who had taken away her son, all of the color instantly drained from her face."Isn't she supposed to be in Murong Ling's prison? Why was she here?"Miao Bei took out his phone and dialed M

Murong Ling held onto her with all his might and he roared in a low voice.Due to his cold, his breath was a little unstable and he suddenly began to cough violently. She could feel his warm breath against her neck, intertwining with her own from time to time. It was hard to differentiate them.Miao Xiaobei was no longer struggling. She had been waiting to hear those three words for seven years. What was the point of him saying them now? Many things had already happened and they would never be able to turn back the clock. Both of them kept silent as Murong Ling's coughs started to quieten down. He leaned his warm face closer to her neck as he said in his hoarse voice, "I really love you.""I'm serious. I know just how wrong I was."Miao Xiaobei suddenly felt a dampness on her neck and was shocked. Looking into his tearful eyes, her heart began to ache."The thing is, I don't love you anymore."She suddenly stood up and stared at him, a cold and indifferent expression sweeping o

"You deliberately stood in the rain to get a fever so that you could stay with Mom. I guess Mom really hates you," he said.Upon listening to those words, the man in the bed opened his eyes, his face unwrinkled by any frown."Oh, are you not going to pretend to sleep anymore?" the child said, supporting his chin in his hand.Murong Ling blushed. How was this little kid smart enough to know that he was pretending to be asleep? He had thought there was no loophole in his plan. Even Miao Xiaobei had not realized it, so how could a child have figured it out?The little fellow sighed helplessly."You pretended to be sick in order to see how Mom would react, so there's no way you would have fallen asleep for real," he said, analyzing it logically.Murong Ling really didn't know whether he should cry or laugh in response. Why was this kid trying to act intelligent with that tiny brain of his? However, his attitude towards had at least improved since last time. He was speaking more and

In the end, she emerged victorious, and he was utterly defeated. He even had to pay for all the furniture in her house, including her son's toys.As it had already been exquisitely decorated, they were able to move in directly. Of course, the costly price of the apartment did make Miao Xiaobei feel more than a little heartache. However, in order to let her son live more comfortably and have a real home, she felt that the price was worth it.One week after moving in, Murong Ling turned up at their door dead drunk late in the night. She had never seen him looking so haggard and pathetic before. She couldn't bear to leave him outside alone, so she dragged him into the house. It took her a lot of effort, but she eventually managed to pull him onto the sofa."I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry...""Uh, what?" Miao Xiaobei could barely make out his drunk mumbles. She could not make sense of what he was saying, so she bent her body lower and leaned into him."I'm sorry... I'm sorry..."

The secretary, who was standing by the door, could not help but felt touched. She turned around and wiped away the tears that had sprung to her eyes unbidden. As the boy's biological father, Murong Ling's heart was filled with regret when he saw the mother and son hugging each other. He felt like kicking himself. How could he have done all those things in the past?"Mom, you really will not abandon me again?" the little fellow asked doubtfully."I swear honey, never again for as long as I live. From now on, you will stay with me, okay?"She let go of him and used her hand to wipe away his tears. The child hesitated for a moment before nodding, then suddenly burst into tears. This shocked the four of them."I'm not an abandoned child anymore. I have a mommy. Waaaaa..." he wailed noisily. This only made Miao Xiaobei feel even worse. The little fellow cried until his eyes were swollen like walnuts, only easing off after around half an hour. His shoulders were shaking continuously
