"Hello, Kara?." A small feminine voice echoed from my phone speaker with a tone of worry etched in her voice.
"Sam?." I questioned, feeling rather perplexed as I pulled my phone away from my ear to stare at the screen and be sure I was hearing and seeing properly.
"Omg Kara, where have you and Lance been? Y'all just ghosted us and ditched school since the Halloween party night, is something wrong?." She sounded very worried, I could literally picture the expression on her face now and it made me chuckle.
"You're laughing! Unbelievable, do you know how worried I was, I thought something had happened to y'all!." She kept on rambling.
Typical Sam always a chill vibe.
"Calm down sugar, nothing's wrong, Lance and I are on vacation..." I said calmly as I felt a devious smirk crossing my amused lips and brightening my facial expression.
"Are you kidding me? Then I shouldn't be worried that you're gonna have yourself killed, don't lie to me, K." Sam shuddered in the background.
Okay how did she get a hint about that?.
"I'm not lying to you Sam." I muttered calmly, pouting a little.
"I know everything Kara... Everything!." Sam said as she stressed the last word.
"I don't know what you're talking about!." I said, standing my ground.
If Sam knew anything about what was going she would be directly putting herself into harm's way, I can't risk my friends getting killed as well. Not a chance.
"Kara, my Dad... You know Detective Parker right?." She sighed heavily across the line, her voice lowered now.
"Yeah what about him?." I asked, feigning lack of interest hopefully to make her change her mind.
Why do I have a bad feeling about this?.
"Well Harvey's my Dad, I saw the case files and some stuff about the investigation, I asked and he told me all about it..." She reduced her voice to a quiet whisper.
Oh goody!.
"I know you're not asking for my opinion but take it from someone that misses their mother so dearly..." She started and trailed off, weighing the moment carefully before she continued.
"Yeah I don't really know how I feel about you knowing all this..." I admitted quietly.
"I suggest you go see yours Kara, and most importantly try to make up for all that lost time, because life is short, full of surprises and also very unpredictable..." She added.
"Somehow I know deep down that you want this as well..." She said finally.
There was a short silence that was caused by me because I let the weight of her words linger before drinking them in and accepting the fact.
"Maybe!." I muttered firmly and then pulling the phone from my ear, I hit the red end-call button before she had the chance to say anymore words.
Maybe...
Maybe I wanted to see her, maybe I didn't want to hear her explanations.
But what harm could come from just meeting and sitting for a cup of coffee outside a cafe stall.
Johnny and Sara had organized a meeting at the other side of town at a popular Cafe joint.
Yeah I'm screwed.
I could actually bail without giving them any possible explanation for my actions because I owe no one nothing. Periodt!.
