Chapter 1: Get Into the World

Get into the World

The sky opened up to give a new day with snow filling everywhere to the brim. It was grouping day, and the streets were filled with aerobuses to take us to the venue. The venue was filled with those returning from Zona, and we all watched with wide eyes as they looked gloomy, it seemed they didn't even want to return. 5 years that would be us but for now, let's go have some fun. I moved through the gathering and joined the snack line and smiled to myself.

You see, December was the favourite time for citizens planet District, Districtians, as it was time for the yearly recruitments. It was the most populated from all three planets, a month was needed for it. The other planets, Area and Tract, prepared for this period in their way, one I didn't know. Our government usually called for a meeting a mid-month to assure parents of everyone safety in Zona and engaged the youngsters on how the groupings will be done when it was time to move. The groups were based on the different provinces ensuring one had no relation to the other, and at least 10 in each group. 

Each planet had several divisions with 10 for Zona, 8 for Area, and 9 for Tract. Each province was then named using planet name and the corresponding province number just like my province, District9. Due to the difference in the number of provinces, the groups needed at least 1 from each in all planets. If the numbers were not equal for, it was filled with what's left. 

Why were we going to Zona anyway, a newborn might ask. It was classified as a maturing phase for all to go through. 

Zona had always been a mysterious planet that every child looked forward to visiting. The fact that it came out of nowhere to relieve a lot of stress from the adults was cool, but many still had doubts. Many said it came from the donations of the rich people all around, some said it was just a mirage because it was too surreal, and most just didn't bother and decided to enjoy it. It was described to be fancy and modern with a blend of everything from vintage to country to exquisite. It had something special for all species within the age range alongside their higher-ups. 

You see, at a particular age, everyone was expected to leave their home planet. It was compulsory whether or not you had the means, Zona would pay for everyone anyway. No one knew the higher-ups, but we were youngsters and freedom was all we seemed to need,  so we just didn't care about it. There wasn't anything to think about, no gaps and nothing bad ever happened. It was all fun, exploration and a certain kind of guidance for our personal development. The journey was generally described as our "Becoming an Adult Phase".

The general rules for each planet stated that the year anyone was going to turn 15, you were to move to Zona. The meeting was specifically to help with the rules, regulations and navigation methods for Zona. Finally, you were left alone to survive until your 20th birthday where you will be celebrated and move back to your home planet. 

It may have been fishy at first knowing that several lives were there with no supervision or "grownups", but no one cares. We were going to enjoy ourselves, and that was all that mattered. Our parents were mostly happy to let us go because things were hard in our respective planets, and a chance to enjoy or save was something to look out for.

I got the gist from the faces of those returning and finally went into the large hall after placing my ID into the confirmation hose and collecting it from the other end. 

The grouping hall was filled to the core as parents, family members and friends were all around with their ward. I walked up to mine and gave them the snacks, then they continued to chat. 

My twin sister, Mel, was the star for now as she listened to my parents and made small talk. She had their full attention as they talked about whatever they were before I arrived. Once they were done, they faced me and gave me the same lecture they most likely gave her and finally, we all said our farewells just as the speaker rang out silencing the crowd. The names were being called out, and we were to proceed to get our key tags and enter the corresponding pods.

Our family was a mixed clan of fighters and supernaturals. Although powers were neutralized at an early age, many retained some qualities, this included us. This is due to the dangers that came with the planet's atmosphere as too much life force reduced our life span.

Many on our planet had the same features ranging from their evolution type and level. We were many and had our foes from history but lived in peace anyway.

A hit on my back jolted me out of my thoughts, and I was The groupings were done and I, Melchy, was in Zona7.
