chapter 2

Author: Petite One
If he had not seen the shoes that Jade often wore at the entrance, Zephaniah would have thought that he had gone to the wrong house.

“Mister Owens.” Easton offered his hand for a handshake and smiled at Zephaniah in a friendly manner. “We’ve met in Euphoria Hotel before. I’m Easton Mcdaniel, Jade’s senior.”

When he said that, Zephaniah remembered bringing a client to Euphoria Hotel for a meal. He had met Easton and Jade there. Both of them looked pretty close judging by the way they talked to each other, to the point that their relationship seemed a little more than what was shared between a senior and junior.

Zephaniah felt slightly unhappy, but he still shook hands with Easton out of politeness. “Zephaniah Owens.”

When he saw a little girl sitting on the couch playing with her Ipad, Zephaniah subconsciously cast a glance at Easton and assumed that she was likely his daughter. He somehow felt rather happy but only in secret.

Jade’s mother and Jade were busy in the kitchen. Zephaniah walked over and asked Jade, “Do you need help?”

“No, you’re our guest. Just rest in the living room.”

Zephaniah scowled when Jade did not turn around and look at him at all.

He could feel that this was not a simple dinner.

Very soon, a table full of dishes was ready, and everyone took a seat one after another before they began to eat.

Jade’s mother constantly talked to Easton. From their conversation, Zephaniah knew that Easton was a student of Jade’s father, and he was divorced.

Jade’s mother seemed to like Easton very much, refilling his bowl from time to time. However, she did not even glance at Zephaniah. The atmosphere at the dining table was not good, but it was not silent.

Once they were done eating, Jade made a move.

Jade put a divorce agreement in front of Zephaniah, and she looked calm. “Zephaniah, I hope you can sign the agreement.”

“Didn’t I say we should reconsider divorce?” Zephaniah just knew that it would not be a simple dinner, but he did not expect this to happen. “Tell me, why did you go to my office? And why did you put down your ring before you left?”

By the time he rushed to the office, Jade had left a long time ago. Blanche pointed at the ring on the table and said with a troubled expression, “Zephy, I offered to bring Miss Jade around while we waited for you to come back, but Miss Jade appeared quite pale. She just took off the ring and left. She also asked me to tell you about it.”

He just went on a business trip for a week and did not do anything, so why was she suddenly so determined to take off the ring?

What went wrong?

“You bought the ring, so it’s useless for me to keep it after we get divorced.” Jade did not want to expose those lies. It would just put everyone in an even more embarrassing situation. “I just hope you can sign the agreement for the sake of our three-year-long marriage.”

Zephaniah’s throat was burning. He refused to give up. “Why? You even said our marriage has lasted for three years.”

He thought they would get divorced peacefully four years later, but Jade’s move caught him completely off guard. He found himself unable to accept it.

Yet, he could not explain why he found the outcome unacceptable either.

“I’ve fallen for someone else.” Jade cast a glance at Easton, and her eyes were full of love. “The one I love is willing to sacrifice for me. He sincerely wants to marry me, and there are no pre-marriage agreements either.”

Zephaniah saw her subtle moves, and he understood everything. He remembered how he had asked people to help Jade’s father, but in the end, he learned that someone had already returned all of the embezzled money. Jade’s father had also received his sentence. As a result, his face gradually darkened.

“So, did you also borrow two million from him?”

Seeing that Jade remained silent, Zephaniah became so angry that he laughed. “Jade, I may not have said much about it, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t do anything. I just want you to talk to me about it, but you... you just went and borrowed money from an outsider? Aren’t you amazing?!”

Easton stood in front of Jade just in time. He was afraid that Zephaniah would do something drastic when he was angry.

“Mister Owens, Jade has made her stance clear. I hope you can respect her. Please, divorce her in peace.”

Zephaniah gave Jade, who was behind Easton, a long hard stare with his dark eyes.

The divorce agreement was scrunched up in his hands. Nevertheless, he spread it out reluctantly and gradually flattened it on the coffee table in the end.

The somewhat familiar feeling made Jade flinch. She subconsciously wanted to pull her arm back, but the man tightly grabbed onto her. Jade looked up and met his gaze, and she immediately lost herself in the gentle and loving eyes. She gulped. “Ze-Zephaniah.” The man lowered his eyes and glanced at Deniz. Without any explanation, Zephaniah stepped forward and lifted up Jade. Deniz, who was left behind, stared as Jade’s feet were suddenly lifted in the air. His gaze trailed after them, and he was left speechless by what he saw before him. He gulped and chased after Zephaniah. “Hey, director! Put our director down!” After he chased after them for a few steps, he got worried about their luggage. Deniz was torn between the two options before him. He saw Gemarya then and rushed toward him. The man patted his shoulder. “Mister Owens will take care of Miss Redfern. You just need to check-in into the hotel.” Deniz noticed that Gemarya had a faint smile, and he suddenly unders

After asking what she wanted to know, Jade looked down and stared at Nephele in front of her. “Do you need me to send you home?” “No need. Don’t think that I’ll thank you after helping me once.” Nephele’s smile was pale, and her voice was cold. “Whatever.” Jade looked away and turned away. She walked toward the elevator at the back, and the sound of her high heels stepping on the ground resounded through the corridor. Her tone was very cold when she added, “I hope you can answer the call on time next time, so that I’ll not be troubled like today.” After saying that, she reached the elevator. After she waited quietly for a while, she entered and chose the first floor. She gave off a restrained aura, but she was still obviously capable and imposing.Ding! As the door of the elevator slowly opened, Jade walked out and saw an elderly woman in a wheelchair being slowly pushed forward. Jade had met Heidi’s mother once at Howells family. Compared to her appearance now, the chang

It was as if Jade found it unbelievable. She ignored the dampness and flipped the document that she held tightly in her hands open. She skimmed over it, and her eyes became brighter. From the corner of her eyes, she saw her cell phone on the table. She picked it up and dialed a contact. No one answered the call for a very long time. Jade could only end the call and look up while she asked Deniz, “Do you know where Miss Kirby went?” Deniz pursed his lips. “I overheard her answering a call when she headed out. It seemed like a phone call from a doctor.” “Doctor…” Jade was stunned for a second, but she quickly came back to her senses. She retrieved her coat from the clothes stand behind her and was ready to leave. “I’m heading out. If Mister Whittle looks for me, tell him that I’m meeting a client.” After she said that, she put on her coat and left. ... A woman with pale complexion was leaning against the hospital corridor’s white tile wall. Her eyes were filled with des

After the regular meeting on Monday, Mister Whittle asked Jade to stay. She could guess what the subsequent discussion would contain. When she walked out from the meeting room, he spoke to an assistant on the way to his office. “Ask Nephele to come to my office.” The assistant quickly hummed and ran away. He disappeared at the end of the corridor. Jade remained silent and followed Mister Whittle to the elevator. When the door of the elevator slowly closed, Mister Whittle sighed. “A few vice presidents and I unanimously adopted a resolution. We’ll let you take up the position of director of the Marketing Department.” Mister Whittle stood at the position near to the door of the elevator, while Jade stood at the back. It was not easy for her to immediately notice his expression, but she could feel that his emotions were not very good.“You’re worried that I don’t have sufficient qualifications. You can’t convince others and you can’t be sure whether I can actually handle this pos

“Didn’t Mister Long tell you that he only hired you because of a friend’s recommendation?” Jade took another sip of wine. She noticed that Heidi’s body was swaying, as if she had understood something, so she continued. “Didn’t you ask him who’s the friend? I believe it’s very hard for someone with a past of academic fraud to seek out a high-paying job, right?” Heidi suddenly recalled what Mister Long had told her when he instructed her to come over in the morning. He seemed to have been implying that it would be easier to seal the deal with someone familiar. She had thought he was indirectly asking her to build a good relationship with the other party so that things would be easier in the future, but clearly, she had misunderstood Mister Long’s meaning. Heidi suddenly looked up at Jade and clenched her teeth. “It’s you.” Jade appeared nonchalant. She placed her wine glass on the table with a soft clink. The sound made Heidi tremble as if it had hit her heart. “Your mother is

During the weekend, before Jade went out, she was not surprised to receive a call from Mister Long. After calmly listening to him, she chuckled cheerfully. “It’s okay, Mister Long. Please go ahead with your work. You can just send a staff member you trust to discuss the business with me.”She stopped for a while, patiently listened to the question on the other side, and said again, “It’s not really a big deal. I just wanted to give you some feedback on the aspect of the data issues. This was initially concerning the Data Department, but after all, you’re my important client…” After she hung up, she showed the ghost of a smile. She turned back and glanced at the kitchen. “Mum, I want to go to the supermarket and buy some groceries. What do you want to eat at noon?” When Jade’s mother heard it, she could not help but look surprised. Before she spoke, the caregiver came out in a hurry. “Miss Redfern, didn’t you say you’re meeting a client later? You can just leave this task to me.”
