chapter 2

I try opening my eyes but the instant throbbing tells me that not only did I drink too much moonshine last night, but today is going to be rough. I make my way slowly to the window and close the curtains. I zombie my way back to the bed and fall face first onto the mattress groaning into my pillow. The memories of last night start flooding back and I hear Leia whimper in my head again while I just want to cry. This time her whimpers hurt my head. Why did I drink so much. Ugh.

Wait! How did I get home?! I jolt out of my bed and grab my phone. I have a bunch of missed calls and texts from Luke, Amber, Heather and my mom. Shit, how did I get home. I try to reach out to Leia, but she doesn’t answer. I think she is still so hurt by what Colin did. I am too, but I think he took me home. I am almost positive he did, but he’s not in my room so maybe he didn’t. Or maybe he did but just dropped me at my room and went to his on the other side of the pack house.

I decide to go through my texts and see what everyone wanted.

‘Ellie where the hell did you go?! This is two nights in a row now that you’ve left me without a word. Little rude to be honest here, especially with how you were dancing with me tonight’ Luke seems mad, oops.

’elkie, I neeeeeeed you!! Wherw are youuy????????′ Oh goddess I hope that Amber got home ok.

‘Ok, you left and then Colin ran outside. What is going on??? Luke was going to go looking for you but then Amber started puking. Tonight was amazing and you were seriously on fire girl! Text me in the morning and let me know you’re ok’ So obviously Heather was not as drunk as Amber or myself. Good, maybe Luke got her and Amber back to their room safely.

I start to send texts back when my phone rings. It is Luke and I am terrified to answer, but I do.

“Good morning Luke!” Maybe if I am bubbly he won’t be so upset.

“Morning Elenor” Ok, I failed with the bubbliness, he’s upset and just called me Elenor.

“Look, I’m sorry. Amber brought her dad’s moonshine and it was Apple Pie flavored. I didn’t realize how much I had until it was too late. I decided I needed to go back to the pack house and it was right across the street so I left. I am very sorry I left you there”

“You can’t just take off after drinking that much Ellie! You know that! And what was going on with you and Colin?! He couldn’t take his eyes off of you the entire time you three were dancing and could barely focus on our conversation.”

“How am I supposed to know what the hell goes on in his mind? I’m not his keeper, where was Victoria? She’s his girlfriend right?!” Shit I definitely said that a little too aggressively.

“Um, well, she was right there with her friends dancing and intermittently coming to kiss Colin and focus his attention back onto her. It wasn’t exactly productive seeing as he was very attentive to you.”

“Ok Luke, I’m seriously hungover, I need to take a shower and get myself together. Can you just come over later and we fight then?”

“Ugh, whatever! I’ll be there in 2 hours” He hangs up first and I just sigh not ready to face him just yet.

Why is Colin so confusing right now? He knows that we are mates, yet he keeps up his act with Victoria and loudly denies me in front of classmates? What was with him almost kissing me and confessing his attraction for me in the hallway and kissing my head while calling me beautiful while carrying me home?

HE DID TAKE ME HOME! Did he bring me into my room? Did we do anything? I check my panties like I am going to see a post it note in there saying I lost my virginity and then I start laughing at myself. Leia starts laughing at me as well.

“Oh hey! Good morning Leia, where have you been?”

“Good morning Ellie, I’ve been trying to recover from what you, Colin and Devon did to me. Between you drinking so heavily and Colin and Devon being complete assholes I had a very rough night and morning. So excuse me for ignoring you to get some rest.”

“I’m sorry Leia, I will try to not do that again, and don’t forget that they did it to me as well.”

“I know, I’m sorry too. Hopefully we can figure all of this out soon. I really hate the confusion.”

“Me too Leia, me too.”

Screw the shower, I need rest more. I lay there thinking about Colin, knowing what he did brings me some comfort. He knew that I left on my own, drunk. He took me home, made sure I was safe and then respected me by leaving. Ugh, but he's so confusing. Those thoughts and then the memories of the dance start playing in my head like a carousel until I finally drift to sleep.

Apparently I slept for way too long because I wake up to Luke pounding on my door for the second day in a row. I open it slowly while announcing what I am doing, so I wouldn’t be punched in the nose again.

“I come in peace, I just want to make sure you are ok and I am not leaving until you tell me what is going on with you.” Luke walks in with his hands in the air like he is surrendering.

I sigh in defeat and throw myself onto my bed very dramatically. I know he’s serious about not leaving and I also know he can see through my lies so it’s best for me to come clean. I grab my pillow and shove in onto my face to muffle what is about to come out of my mouth. I feel him sit down next to me and can sense his concern.

“Colin is my mate, and he somewhat found out at halftime at the game. Then when we went to the Luna and Alpha’s house for pictures he found out for sure. He took me into the hallway at the dance last night and almost kissed me before he very loudly called me the school tomboy in front of a kid from school. Then he said he could never be with me, especially since he is with Victoria.” It came out like word vomit and by the end I was practically in tears. It cuts me so deep to say it out loud. It just made it real and now Luke knows.

“Wow Ellie.” Was all he managed to say back.

I sit up and slide the pillow down my face slowly, not taking it past my nose. I stare at him with wide eyes hoping he has more to say than that. He takes a deep breath and wipes his face with his hand before combing it through his hair. He takes another deep breath and looks at me.

"I mean, I knew something has been going on with you. I had no idea it would be this. I am happy for you that you found your mate. I’m not sure what Colin’s deal is, he’s so fucking lucky to get you handpicked for him. Of course you know I wished it was me, I’ve always loved you, but I am happy with our friendship. I will always be here for you. Plus we both know we couldn’t take each other seriously as lovers, especially with you being such a pain in the ass.”

I pull the pillow completely off my face and hit him with it. I am about to hit him again, but he grabs my wrist to stop me, accidently pulling me towards him. Both of us are caught off guard and in deep emotion. I drop the pillow and he inches his face towards mine until they are almost touching. When he looks down at my lips he licks his own. I stop and rest my forehead onto his. I can’t do this to him again. I put my hand on his chest and begin to slowly back away, but he grabs my back and pulls me to him, leaving no space between us. Our lips finally touch and he gently licks my lower lip, begging for permission to enter. I gladly part my lips and our tongues intertwine as I moan softly into his mouth. His hand that is still holding my wrist lets go and travels up my arm. It continues over landing on my breast, which he softly caresses. I lay down on my bed as Luke lowers his body onto mine slowly. I take my hands and grab onto his hair while he travels wet kisses from my mouth down to my neck. He takes his free hand and places it on my thigh. Then, he slowly traces circles up towards my sweet spot that by this point is already throbbing. When he gets to my panties he stops kissing my neck and looks deeply into my eyes.

“Goddess Ellie, you’re so wet.”

I pull his shirt up and over his head and he lowers himself onto me grinding with passion as he kisses me again. He is about to pull of my panties, which are completely soaked by this point, when a knock comes from my door. We both jump off the bed and go silent at the realization of what just almost happened. We’ve never had sex before, although we’ve been close. If someone hadn’t of interrupted just now, we would have for sure gone all the way this time. Shit, the door, who the hell could it be?

“Ellie, please open the door. We need to talk about this” I know that voice, it’s Colin’s. OMG.
