“He always call you ‘doll’?”
Jessi glanced up from the concealer sticks she held and saw a tall, handsome guy walking towards her. Good heavens. Superstud.
“Hi,” greeted handsome guy, now nearing where she stood speechless. ‘Handsome’ was not enough. He was the total package. And he must be the most gorgeous human being to ever—
Jeez. He was getting nearer. And nearer.
“Matt.” Gorgeous leaned forward, held his hand out, and smiled wider as he waited for her to move.
“Oh— Jessi.” She put on a smile and shook hands with Gorgeous. She thanked the heavens again for regaining her senses and mobility. Before he could comment on how flustered she now looked, she realized he didn’t walk over to her spot just to chitchat. He was in costume.
“Jessi,” he repeated, almost murmuring her name. “Nice to meet you.” He took another step closer and turned the black swivel chair around.
“Likewise.”
“Sorry for making your night a little longer, but, Hadji’s M.I.A. and Tara and Cate’ve got their magnificent hands full, so…” While Matt unbuttoned his denim jacket, his eyes repeatedly focused on her face.
Jessi straightened. She followed his gaze when he swung around to glimpse at her busy co-workers at the other side of the room, switching sides and juggling the main stars’ makeup kits. Indeed. She would be working till sunrise. Again.
Five weeks and a row now and Kelly was still nowhere to be found. Well, she was probably just lounging around in her apartment, since Kelly had just given birth to twins. Nobody knew for sure when her subbing would be officially over.
Jessi wanted to sigh out loud. She hadn’t had a good night’s sleep in days, and she was getting way more stressed out than she’d anticipated. Season finales were the worst. Longer hours, more taping days, more extras, more stress, thus more sleepless nights, and so forth.
On the bright side, at least she wouldn’t be completely unemployed by the end of the year. She quit modeling because it wasn’t really working out for her. Despite the tiring schedule and all-around job description, this hair and makeup stylist slash part-time PA stint also paid heftier. So now she was certain she wouldn’t have to worry about paying rent till early next year.
