◇ KEL

When Miles had left the hospital with Niccolo, I heard they used the Falcos' private plane to meet up with Stefano.  With no choice but to stay in the private room, Mykaela counted down the hours.

It had been forty-eight, lonesome, painful hours. She preferred to take less painkillers to be more awake, but the stitches and bruises definitely hurt more.

"Let's wait a little more for the other test results, okay?" the doctor had said.

Waiting for her wounds to heal was taking painstakingly long, but it wasn't like she could argue; Miles didn't let her.

"Don't even try. You're staying here," he'd even warned her the other day.

No phone, no internet, no going out.

Two days of it had drained her energy and motivation. Cable TV here didn't amuse her. Out of boredom, she'd fall asleep at least every four hours, but would wake up every time someone stepped into the room.

The nurses who checked her IV regularly and cleaned her stitches were mostly quiet and comforting, which she appreciated. But every time she heard the door open, her gut instinct would just jump back to full alert.

Every time the door opened, she hoped it was Miles, or her mom and Jill. But, no. She could only wish.

It exhausted her. The waiting and the boredom. Although Miles let her call her mom and sister to tell them she'd lost her phone, she couldn't explain anything else besides staying in Brescia with him for a few days.

Big fat lie, but, better if they knew less for now. Her mom might go ballistic if she knew what really happened.

Kel sighed to herself. Miles was smart enough not to give her a new phone.  Clearly, he hated the thought of her contacting Andrew, Beth, or Detective Richardson, and especially Enzo.

"Alessio,"  she called out to the guy in the corner of the room.

"Signorina?" Alessio got up from the couch to approach the hospital bed, where she sat hunched over, sulking.

"Can I use your phone?"

"Erm..."

She had to talk to someone. Anyone. Ugh.  She was seldom homesick, but now she missed home so bad. Kel frowned. Worse that she had to pretend nothing was wrong and she wasn't under lockdown in a hospital.

"Sì, Signorina," Alessio replied after a long pause. He was brown-haired and tall, serious and buff like the other guards, but a little friendlier to her. "But no long distance except your family."

Great. This was way worse than getting grounded. She couldn't really talk to the guards. They were all reserved, tasked to take their jobs seriously. Too seriously.

Alessio, Miles' most trusted bodyguard, had stayed with her since Miles and Niccolo left. Alessio was keeping an eye on her and every hospital staff that would step into the room. But he wasn't much of a talker, either. He stayed on the couch and sometimes by the door, possibly with a loaded handgun securely tucked beneath his belt and concealed by his jacket.  "You need the phone now, Signorina?"

"Please," she sighed. "I need to call your boss."

No messages. No emails. No calls.

It had been an hour.

Maybe two more tries?

Three?

She didn't care anymore if it made her look desperate.

Where was he?  The waiting just left her restless but weaker. Miles had promised he'd be back by today.

The clock read a quarter past four. Come sunset and still no replies, then that meant he wouldn't be here anytime soon.

Her palm gripped the phone she borrowed from Alessio. He stood by the door, back and shoulders squared, lips shut tight, pretending not to notice her apprehension and bad mood.

"Still no answer," she muttered. Pretending not to be upset just irritated her more.

"I'll call and ask the other guys if they're on the way," Alessio replied. He stepped towards the hospital bed only to get his work phone back.

"Thanks."

"Anything else?"  Alessio raised his dark and bushy brows at her.

"I'll just...go back to sleep. Please turn the lights off."

"Okay. Rest well, Signorina."

Kel snuggled to her soft pillow that smelled of sanitizer. The temporary comfort was not enough to quell her restless thoughts. It'd be a miracle if she slept through the night without any disruptions.

Her eyelids were just about to give in to gravity when loud and frantic knocks on the door began echoing in her head.

"Mykaela! Sta' indietro—"

Thud.

A guy shouting profanities.

Loud grunts.

"Mykaela, aprira la porta."

That voice...

Crap. He's here.

"Mykaela! Sono io."

Oh no.

Even Alessio tensed up as he stood right by the door, his stance failing to hide his scowl and loaded gun. And here she thought this was the safest place to be right now. Not even three days later, and they already caught up to her.

Darn it. Why wouldn't they just leave her alone? Let her recover in peace?

"Mykaela! Ti prego, parlami. Per favore."

The door muffled the guy's voice, but the desperation in his words just pierced her doubtful heart.  She hadn't seen him since that awful day on the private island.

Perhaps he just wanted answers. Maybe even forgiveness? That's if he's no longer clueless about what actually happened in San Pietro.

"Mykaela!  Please."  Pause. Everyone just fell silent.  "I'm not leaving till we talk."

*Juliet*Though it had come early with the whiteout squall Sam and I’d had on the Isle Royale, the winter started out like any other. Children and adults alike brought their snow gear out of the cedar chests and armoirs and prepared to salt the streets and sidewalks.Driving was a bit more treacherous, but we’re used to this inconvenience, and with Julia still at home another year before kindergarten, Sam and I had only rare occasion to leave home anyway, weekly for mass and once a month for groceries and pantry staples. And it wouldn’t be the winter season without a few cold-weather aggravations as far as we were concerned.True to his word, with nothing else to do on the farm, Sam tore our bathroom apart and built a fine vanity with double sinks and a GE Textolite countertop. He made a special trip to the city and brought home and installed shining

They were all bedrooms richly decorated with huge four poster beds, but each one decorated differently, making each room have its own individual personality. When I came across the seventh door. I could feel energy radiating on the other side of the door, someone was inside. I could see the soft green glow of their Aura, which meant one of two things, they were either an earth witch or human. I just hope it's Becca and not a Coven Elder.Luck must be on my side, upon opening the door. I discover Becca sitting on a metal chair in the centre of the room, her head slumped to the side, she glanced up when I stepped in closing the door behind me. Her hands and feet duct taped to the legs and arms of the chair. Her blonde hair matted with blood and sweat, she was bleeding from her forehead, a large gash that went from her eyebrow and into her hairline. When I first walked in, I froze at the sight of her. She lost we
