Chapter 26 Su Ziyue, How Dare You

Reading the message saying “I have no time”, Su Ziyue was startled for a while. Then she put away the cellphone with a cold face.

‘Well, who cares.’ she said to herself.

Su Ziyue dashed out of the office as soon as it was time for getting off work.

She came back home only to find an empty room. Qin Muchen was not back yet.

Su Ziyue took two apples from the fridge, one in each hand. Nestling in the couch, she was watching TV and eating apples.

She was hungry when the variety show starting at 7:00 p.m. was over. Still, Qin Muchen was not back.

Su Ziyue was getting a bit upset. She phoned a takeout. She fell asleep on the couch after having dinner and leaving the takeout box on the table.

In the midnight, she felt she was lifted up and woke with a startle. “Who!” she cried out.

“It’s me.” Qin Muchen’s voice came from above her. She could feel his warm breath.

Su Ziyue stopped short. Soon she was wide awake. She saw his face and tried to get rid of him. “Put me down.” she said with a cold look.

“All right.” Qin Muchen answered. But he didn’t put her down until they reached the bed.

Keeping her mouth tightly closed, Su Ziyue buried herself in the quilt.

Qin Muchen found she didn’t want to talk to him. He sat down on the edge of bed. “Are you angry?” asked him in a nice and patient way.

Su Ziyue didn’t answer.

He continued, “I did have no time for the dinner tonight.”

“I don’t care. Leave me alone. I wanna sleep.” She sat bolt upright from the bed, darting a cold look at him, and got under the quilt again.

Qin Muchen frowned a bit and stopped talking. He turned around to the living room to clean up the takeout box she left on the table. Then he went to the bathroom.

The bathroom door closed. Su Ziyue was then pulling down the quilt a bit. It felt bad to have quilt over her head in summer.

She smelt no smoke, no alcohol when Qin Muchen was next to her. ‘Maybe he didn’t fool around with someone else.’ she said to herself.

Su Ziyue woke up alone the next morning.

She came to the dining room. Her mood was brightened by the breakfast on the table.

She sat down to have her breakfast, wondering.

‘Was it true that he didn’t prepare breakfast for me because he was angry yesterday? He came home so late last night. Where did he go?’

Thinking of this, she found she barely knew him. However, Qin Muchen not only knew her family background, but also gradually knew her personal habits.

‘Should I try to get to know more about him?’

This idea was lingering in her mind. Even at work, she was still thinking about this.

As soon as she sat down in the office, she heard the colleagues next to her were whispering.

“My boyfriend didn’t come back last night. Is it possible that he has an affair with another woman?”

“Why don’t you just ask him?”

“How could it be possible to ask him about such thing? Oh, this thing is driving me crazy. I can’t just call him. You know what…”

“Then you may stalk him…”

‘Stalk?’

Su Ziyue was shocked by the word “stalk”. ‘To stalk a man to find out where he has been to? Is it necessary?’ Su Ziyue asked herself.

‘But I didn’t quite know how to ask him face-to-face.’

“What are you talking about? Stalk?”

Suddenly the conversation between the two whispering colleagues was interrupted by a clear voice. Su Ziyue looked up unconsciously. She saw a familiar figure.

“Ann Xia, you’re back!” they shouted.

“I came back yesterday. What are you talking about? Who are you going to stalk? Your boyfriend cheats on you?” Ann Xia said.

“Hey, it’s impossible…”

They were talking and teasing.

Su Ziyue stared at the woman called Ann Xia, and then she looked down quickly.

Su Ziyue stayed in her own place almost for a whole day. She was a bit in a trance this day.

When she got off work, it began to rain.

Su Ziyue didn’t bring umbrella. She frowned and was ready to rush out into the rain. Just then, someone next to her gave her an umbrella and said, “Here you are. I brought two. You may return it to me tomorrow.”

Su Ziyue froze in her place. She realized that it was Ann Xia.

“Hey, why don’t you speak? You don’t need that?” Ann Xia asked and turned to look at her face. She froze, too. “Are you…Ziyue?” Ann Xia asked hesitantly.

“You…you must mistake me for someone else.” Su Ziyue said in panic and rushed into the rain.

Ann Xia ran after her. Finally, Ann Xia caught up with her and clutched her clothes. “Su Ziyue, how dare you never keep in touch with me! Damn it! I’m exhausted…”

Su Ziyue got all wet in the rain. She looked pale. She looked at Ann Xia in silence.

Ann Xia glared at her and said, “Speak to me! Are you dumb?!”

Su Ziyue looked down at her shoes. “Sorry…” she said in a small voice.

“You…”

Ann Xia was irritated by her apology. She was ready to shout at Su Ziyue. However, she was pushed aside by someone. If it was not for the fence beside her, she would have fallen down to the ground.

“What happened? Did you get hurt?” Qin Muchen asked Su Ziyue.

Ann Xia was pushed aside. Qin Muchen showed up under an umbrella. He came to Su Ziyue’s side and looked at Ann Xia with hostility.

“What are you doing? Get out of the way! It’s none of your business!” Su Ziyue yelled at Qin Muchen.

Su Ziyue felt that Qin Muchen was hostile towards Ann Xia. She pushed him away quickly.

“If you catch a cold, it is me who will take care of you!” Qin Muchen said with a cold look.

“I…” Su Ziyue was scared by his cold face and dared not speak anymore.

In the coffee house, Su Ziyue and Ann Xia had put on clean clothes. They sat face to face with each other. Qin Muchen was in the car. He didn’t follow them inside.

Su Ziyue stirred her coffee nervously. “How have you been …” she asked Ann Xia.

“It’s none of your business!” Ann Xia stopped Su Ziyue irritably.

“Four years have passed, but you haven’t changed at all.” Su Ziyue said in a small voice.

“You know it’s been four years! Damn it! We’ve said we were going to the same college. Damn it! I know nothing about your going abroad until the school begins…” Ann Xia said angrily but there were tears in her eyes.

“Sorry…” thinking of what happened that year, Su Ziyue felt no less bad than Ann Xia did. “At that time, Grandpa was determined to send me abroad in no time. I couldn’t contact you in time…”

Actually, the reason she didn’t contact Ann Xia was that she didn’t want to get her involved in that scandal.

“Stop saying sorry to me!” Ann Xia threw her a glance. “Why don’t you let me know that you’re back? Su Ziyue, how dare you!”
