Veronicas POV

It was 7.30 am by the time I arrived at my apartment, although it was cramped and the rent was high, it was quite close to the office and since I had been living here for the last 3 years, it had become home for me.

Rushing into the apartment I calculated that I had roughly enough time to shower, dress, and grab a quick breakfast before I’d have to hurry back to the office in order to arrive on time.

Just as I had turned the shower on and was preparing to undress, my phone's ringtone sounded from the kitchen counter where I had left it.

Dread filled my heart; it must be him. I sprinted to it, not daring to let it ring for too long.

“Hello?” I answered as confidently as I could.

“Veronica it’s me…” Sam’s voice came from the other side.

“Obviously, I have caller ID” I muttered hoping he couldn’t hear the sarcastic remark I’d just made.

“I’m not in the mood for your sarcasm, I just called to tell you not to go into the office today”

Sams POV

“What!!?!” Veronica screamed down the phone line causing me to automatically pull the phone away from my ear.

“Why did you scream!?” I yelled back as I started to get irritated.

“Sir, I’m sorry” came a whisper “I’ll accept any form of punishment, but please, don’t fire me,” Veronica said, her voice on the verge of tears.

“Silly!” I said sighing “Who said you were fired, hmm?”

This girl’s imagination was something else.

“B-but sir, you just said not to go into the office today” she replied her voice returning to its original innocence.

Really? This girl actually thought I was firing her!? I’d have to be stupid and blind to let her go, not only was she incredibly hard-working and devoted to her job she was also a rare beauty that my eyes got to feast on every day.

Even thinking about her beauty made a blush creep onto my cheeks.

Sighing again I began to explain, “That wasn’t what I meant, I meant that you can have the day off today”

“Oh, I’m sorry Sir for misunderstanding” She began, embarrassment evident in her voice, “Are you sure you don’t need me to run any errands for you?”

“It’s fine, I won’t be doing anything strenuous today anyway, I had a long night last night and just need a bit of rest” I replied holding my breath. Please don’t ask I internally pleaded.

“Okay Sir, message me or call me if you need anything at all,” she said before ending the call.

Letting go of the breath I was holding, I placed my phone on the countertop, need a bit of rest? That was an understatement! My legs ached so much that I was having trouble standing, now that the adrenaline from the previous night had worn off.

Apparently, I’d been spending too much time recently on arm and chest days and not enough on leg days.

When Veronica had started working for me 3 years ago, she’d just turned 20. I had been away on business and hadn’t attended the interview so the first time we met had been her first day, I’d known that I had a new assistant and that her name was Veronica but no one had bothered to tell me how beautiful she was.

Thinking back, I can still remember how I’d made a complete fool of myself in front of her. I’d gone into her office to collect the most recent financials that I’d left there and as soon as I saw her, My heart jumped and my mind lost all reason then I proceeded to stutter out if she was new.

So Idiotic I thought to myself shaking my head as I made my way back to bed.

It was because of Veronica while I’d decided to spend more days working on my arms and chest, every time her ‘new’ boyfriend would pick her up, I’d always sneak a peek only to see her being accompanied by yet another handsome guy with big arms and a well-defined chest that could be seen clearly through his lame muscle shirt. It was definitely her type and so I tried to cater towards it hoping that she would one day notice me.

Little did I know that it would come back to bite me in the ass I sighed making a mental note to take a week break from the gym.

Lying on my bed with one arm behind my head and my legs crossed at the ankles I knew it was time to end this tragic experience.

I rang Gideon knowing that if anyone knew who the mysterious woman from the previous night was, it would be him.

Veronicas POV

As soon as I hung up the phone, I breathed a sigh of relief, one more day before I had to face him. 

Having worked for Sam for so long I could read him quite well and I knew exactly what move he'd make next, so I looked through my contacts then placed a call.

After the second ring, the call was connected "Aiyo! Ni ni, it hasn't even been 24 hours" Gideon's smirk visible in his tone. 

"Cut the crap Gid! Tell me what you know about last night" I said already annoyed 

"I know everything, it sounds like your night with the boss wasn't as steamy as I imagined it'd be," he said disappointedly

My face beet red, I thanked the heavens that Gideon couldn’t see me. “How did you know?” 

He laughed, “who wouldn’t know!? you two were all over each other in the club. Don’t you remember?” 

I screamed internally tightening my grip on the phone, I’ve never been so embarrassed in my life.

“why would I bother calling you if I remembered?” I shot back trying to hold my anger but failing miserably.

Gid started laughing “I thought you’d called to gloat”

I rolled my eyes and gulped as I stuttered out the next question, “D - do you th - think he’ll remember?”
